While the 4100 may display 1080p, its still SD187 tubes, and they arent known for razor sharpness. I would expect 1080i to look best followed by 720p. 1080i will be less effort for the projector. 1080p will look terrible on that machine if it displays it at all.

If youre watching DVD, youd do just as good to view them at either 576p or 480p, depending on what they were put on the disc at. Pretty pointless upscaling them much on that projector.

It won't just be DVDs I watch i will be watching blu ray and also HD gaming(most likely I will run at 1080i or 720p and not try running 1080p because of the tubes as curt told it would do 720p best already)
I looked at the HD fury and the advanced kit is 139 so I can get that now then start saving up after I get done with my car restoring project

He may think that, but you still need to form your own opinion. What he likes and what you like may just be two different things!! Wink

Dont confuse what the projector will display with what it can suitably display. Big difference, especially on a machine like that.

case i looked at the hdfury and there is three choices

here is the link for the one i am going to get

http://www.hdfury.com/products/hdfury-i/

it has blue, green and red i am going to guess the green choce is the one i need with the bnc for the projector right(i know the box is the same but the cable is different)
i am getting the advanced kit with the 6' hdmi to dvi cable
extender cable
power supply
and usb cable
i hope that will work

Don't get an extra VGA to BNC cable from HDFury for use on your PC. It won't work. They are only 7" long and the wrong gender ( wow that sounded dirty lol )

Grab one from Amazon or someplace else.

You can try it both ways. It'll only work right one way. As I recall some of the ECP stuff may need the H+V T'd together to get it to sync. Yours may not however.

i seen that from some owners online that had the projector i am getting and some mentioned needing that(hopefully mine doesn't need the t but when i go to radio shack to the video to bnc adaptors for the video ins i will pick up one)

i have a pinout diagram of a vga plug(it will work for both male and female) that shows the h and v positions in the plug i also have a multi meter

i can check for continuity between the pin and the right bnc(then label it to prevent confusion later on)on the cable since the projector is labeled on the input

so i don't have to risk damaging the projector(i have done enough risking electronics trying to repair the tv that was give to me)

i asked curt for a acon camera(i told him it didn't matter if the motors worked or not since i can replace them easy) so he threw one in with the unit definitely going to be a return customer(i already have the site bookmarked) when i decide to upgrade later on(i may get one that will work with the moome hdmi card) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy fun fun fun i will be glad to see the true abilities of crt that has brought me great viewing pleasure for years(i almost bought a samsung projection tv today at a thrift store but didn't know if it worked but the price was a steal at 12 bucks(originally 24 but it was half off) plus i didn't have a way to get it home)

this time it is going to be on the big screen (not a 32 inch screen) that s ten feet Mr. Green Thumbs Up Very Happy

ps i like you avatar (cat person)

Forget the ACON, real men do the job properly.

Also forget the cheap cable, get reasonable quality or youll likely get ghosting

i did the convergence one time on a rear projection tv once(took me a while) but the results looked better then any tv on the market today Very Happy Thumbs Up sadly i don't have that tv anymore but i am fixing up a samsung that was gave to me so i can have a crt based back up should my ecp ever need repairs(provided i don't upgrade in a few months Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green )i will keep the ecp though(i hope i don't start hoarding them)

i have done some shopping on line for the cable(lots of choices) but i am not sure which is best

i think though i will end up staying with crt as dip has the screen door effect up close(not as bad as lcd Shocked )

but the main thing is getting a good cable so if anybody have any suggestions i am all ears as i will be using this a lot

fyi the acon unit will most likely be for looks

The best way is buy a role of quad shield RG6 and run 5 equal lengths, BNC males on one end and F-Type on the other, then attach either male or female BNC depending on what you need. Use the really short HD Fury breakout cable.

That is the best way. Probably abit extreme in your instance, but i dont know how far youre running.

I forgot to mention I already have a hdmi ran to where my current projector is(its a digital) so I most likely will only need a 6 foot cable at the most

So most likely I will only need the short breakout cable from the HDfury to the projector

My digital projectors bulb is on its last few hours and I am glad I got the use I did out of it as it has served me well unlike some of the others I had(one the color wheel shattered Shocked while I was using it very loud pop followed by a loud buzz then it shut down now it is a black and white unit kinda of a shame as it has a like new lamp I forget which error light was on when it did that)

TV/Projector: ECP 4500 (Vidikron box), ECP4500+, wanting 07MS/07MTS, evaluating pc soft-blend

Do pickup a BNC T connector for $1 so it is on hand, should you need it. Some of the Ts have the "branch" in the correct gender to hookup to the back of the PJ so that the H and V cables can connect to the two "run" sides. I think most everyone posting on here with ECPs finds it is necessary to feed H and V in together...I'd just start from there so as to lessen any troubleshooting/issues in setup.

On my 4500 with the very slightly better (when new) 07MS tubes I find 720p looks soft and 1080i is still very nice (maybe 1000hrs on tubes now).

What Matt says RE the 720p vs 1080i debate is exactly what ive been sugesting may be the case, his experience pretty much backs up my opinion on how it would look. In a Sony set, i can get the astig pretty damn near perfect across the whole tube face with 07MS tubes, not sure how much face you use with an ECP compared to a Sony ( i use almost all the phosphor on them ) The astig will be pretty critical for higher resolutions.

i will as i am going to my local radio-shack tomorrow to get the video to bnc adaptors for the video inputs on the set(kinda surprised they are still in my area given how people would rather replace then repair last time i was there the component drawers were gone Sad which sucks

curt tested a bunch of tubes for the set so they should be in pretty good shape

i will be trying both 720p and 1080i on the set to see which i like better(some of my ps3 games only work at 720p)

i already have a vga to bnc cable for my htpc setup(once i get it built) Very Happy

do you run 16:9 most of the time?
or do you do both formats?

i wish i asked curt what tubes were in the set before he shipped it(will know once i get the set)

The tubes in the set are Sony SD187, and they are 4:3. I don't know anything much about Electrohome projectors to know if you can mod them for 07MS tubes, but you might be struggling to find a set of those now anyway.

Most tubes are 4:3, I think P16 are closer to 5:4

I do alot of 5:4 and 4:3 for retro video games, my screen is 125" 5:4. I only do 16:9 for movies in that aspect, and I have curtains that cover the unused screen area for that and for 2.35:1

The Panasonic p16 tubes are great tubes(my samsung tv has them)
I may setup my screen to be able to do both 4:3 and 16:9 so I can play my older game systems in the native format
I have a nes snes and 64(Nintendo) my ps3 and wii is the only two systems that can display in 16:9
Luckily my DVD/VCR helps the VHS shortcomings on a larger screen since it upconverts both
