I have a Barco Graphics 1208/2. The remote I have for it is a Radio Shack universal remote. My question is can I "update" to a new style to be able to control all my other components or am I stuck with this one. I have searche and didn't find the answer. If this has been asked I apologize for not looking hard enough.

Till mid. 2000, all Barco's used the old style PPL remote codes. These are exceptionally high frequency band codes and a very few learning remotes can handle that. Somewhere mid 2000, Barco changed the control codes from PPL to to the more common RC5 type as used by virtually all electronics today.
So if your Barco use the old style, brick-like remote, a modern "all in one" learning remote won't help much.
One of the few remotes that can handle PPL codes is Philip Pronto and it's variations. You can find Pronto.ccf files on remote central.

I don't know much about Barco remotes, but as I know the common remotes using ~450kHz modulation, while Bang&Olufsen remotes using ~900kHz modulation, My One for All Kameleon 6 remote can handle Bang&Olufsen stuffs, and can learn directly, however not sure if Barco used even higher frequencies for their remote.

Actually I've had good success with cheapie learning universals working with either Barco set of IR codes. I buy them here for $10. I've used Philips, One 4 All and a no name brand, all working fine.
No question that earlier learning remotes from 10 years ago wouldn't learn the old BArco codes, but I did find that the Radio Shack one (made then by One 4 All) worked, and I bought probably 100 off Radio Shack over the course of 2 years. The local store got to know me pretty well, and would bring in remotes from other stores, especially when they were selling them at 1/2 price, I think I bought 50 that time.

I'm not very "smart" when it comes to remotes. So would one of those fancy LCD remotes that controls like 300ish different devices work?
