Hi,
I have been searching here and AVS archives looking for info on cross hair alignment. I went through and manually reset all centering data to 128. Now the green and blue line up horizontally and vertically. The red when set to 128 is about 4 inches higher horizontally than the green and blue but lines up vertically. Is there any way to move the red horizontal line down to meet up with the green and blue while maintaining the 128 center?

No, that is the way of the D and G series of sets. Use the Zone 1 (centre zone) for a coarse V shift. What you're seeing is normal.

Did you rest all geometry controls to 128 or just R/G/B Center when in service menu?
Are you starting from scratch or touching up a memory block? If from scratch I would first reset all Zones to 128 and work all the other geometry controls first. Leave zone for the last tweaks and only if necessary (I always find it necessary).

It's from scratch. Using the Sony wireless remote under the flip up door, I used adjust R/G/B Cent,Size,Lin,Skew,Bow,Key,Pin. All zones 1-25 have been set to 128. Not the RGB Size, Shift and Center Red/Blue controls.

like Curt said that is normal for the cross hairs to be off vertically (up/down).
I would not use any Zone adjustment till the very end.
IMO you 1st should CENT the grid pattern not the cross hair on the tube face using the edge of the grid as the reference not the center. Then adjust mechanical TOE in/out. You need to then adjust optical focus, shemflung, and Toe iteratively a couple times before making any other electronic adjustment.

I made a couple of posts over the years with a good guideline of the order of iterative setup and convergence. Ill find them and post this afternoon.
Search the g70 owners thread - lots of info there.
There's also Brian's setup guide, too.

I wanted to make sure I didn't have a problem. I did use the grid pattern to center the raster’s. I’m at 116” from the screen wall to the front of the projector shooting for 52x92 screen size. Sorry I had my up/down=vertical and left/right=horizontal ass backwards.  I'm just getting mesurements to ceiling mount it.

Can't say for sure.
I've run a HTPC for many years and now an up-scaling Blu-ray player, both direct to the PJ. The HTPC measured better grey scale and color (special sauce software).
I'm less critical now so I see very little difference between the two.
That being said, I would think, yes, there would be a benefit. But at what price?
