Gang -

Problem: I can't find the photos that show me where I put some in-ceiling speaker wires back in ~2000! Of course, I have located 95% of the pics I took that show me all the stuff I don't need, but not the TWO pics I do need! I have hazy recollection of the approx area I thought best....that is, I could tell you within about a 2.5ft x 4ft area only. Any ideas for how I can get lucky and avoid any patchwork resulting from my hole-drilling, fishing expeditions?

Is there some trick like putting 120V on one end and using a non-contact voltage sensor and hope I can sense it through the wall? Or borrowing a trace tool?

I love how quickly 13 years passed before I finally got to this. Plugging along can suck at times!

Cheers,
Matt

You need a telephone type toner and probe.

I would recommend one of these as it has an AC filter and this is what I use to find wires behind walls...

That's the idea, but there are ones that do have longer range for exactly this issue. The one on the Amazon link above is pretty much direct contact, or within 1/4 inch or so typically. They don't find wires lost a few inches behind drywall.

Yes they do Curt. Most are good for several inches depending on the probes gain level adjustment. The one on e bay I linked to is my personal favorite.
