@Spanky Ham, I've had Sony's G70 etc. But I still prefer Barco's because of their boards trays, it's easy to trouble shoot if you have more than one unit. With sony's it's a bit more difficult. Also tubes will last longer in Barco's and they give you best PQ.

Franciscus

Making tubes last is a matter of set up. Sony drives them harder out of the box.

Curt, Craig and I touched on this at dinner. Barcos seem to be more popular and have a fanatical following in Europe. How many people have really compared a G90, 9500, and 909? To say that one is better than another, you would have to compare them in similar situations and set up by the same person. I know Craig prefers the G90 (or CIR90 if you will:)), but I will leave it to him to say how much of a difference he has seen in PQ.

Hi Spanky Ham, I agree with you! If treated good and calibrated & modified they all give a awesome picture!
Personally I like Barco's because of the simple internal layout.

Again good luck. Personally, I would go with a single pj set up over a blend or a stack.

Sony from Japan, Barco from Europe (Belgium), and Electrohome from North America. Asking which is best reminds me of cars... Three cars: A Nissan GT-R, a Porsche 911 Carerra 4S, or a Corvette ZR1? Which one is best? Wink

The answer of course is they are all excellent cars. They each have their advantages, and each their shortcomings. Kind of like the projectors. Smile

First it was all the 'which is better, CRT or digital' thread bashing, now it's incest within the CRT camp of which is better.

Well a Dutch Sony Professional Salesman told me a few years ago that Sony never ever sold a single G90 into Holland, guess why they aren't populair, they have to be imported from the USA, instead of picked-up without import duties and expensive airfreight.

Guess what I probably would prefer Wolfgang's HT (have not seen it in the flesh) over the 909 HT I saw at Spotmatic's a few years ago. 60-100 fL alone would do that. The 909 simply lacked brightness when I saw it. So, personally I would prefer a (pair of) current Barco's over the 909.

Now all stop talking about stiff rear axles on leafsprings, that even can't go straight, let alone around corners, LOL!

The fourth one was already used for spares, so no go, if I read Fransisco's Earlier posts on the Dutch forum correctly.

You bring up an interesting point about brightness. I remember Person99 and I discussing it after he went digital. A lot of people may be satisfied with a lower ft/lmbs, but we found that higher brightness really adds to the picture. IIRC Alan over at AVS said he was running insane levels and found that he preferred the much higher levels.

Well fortunate there are a lot of spares as well. So when I can fix some controller boards all 4 units will work.
But I don't want to stack blend or quad. Imagine 4x 800watt per movie !!!
Also it will take a lot of time and money to install a blend or stack. My HT attic has black walls and ceiling and I have some new LUG's so I don't bother light output. Screen width is 280cm wide can't go any wider viewing distance 380cm

Do you know how to fix the controller boards? I know Craig was working on a solution to fix them.

They wont pull 800w constant, especially if you stack them. Still cost you hardly anything to run anyway!!
