Kal, Could you combine the threads?

I mean really, I doubt FH video educated people very much if at all on how superior CRT is to the new Sony VPL Digitals that replaced them, yet they still said "Oh they are worth $13,000 all day long!"

How do you know this? Have you ever spoken to FH? I just did a quick google and here is what I came up with.

If they bought the stock 8 years ago, and STILL have 50 of them, wouldn't someone there have a brain big enough to realize that no one is going to buy them for that price? |
Like I said in the other thread, there was/is a market in China. Maybe that market is starting to diminish. Two years ago, they were buying them at that price.

Like curt said, theres a comparable one on ebay for $3500, and at least he warranties it and backs it up |
Which is great, because if FH can get his prices then Curt will be able to charge more for his G90s. Well maybe not great for people looking to get into G90s.

Remember what I said in another thread about Asians and new stuff vs repaired things? This holds true here. The 'keeping up with the Joneses' is alive and well in Asia, and if one guy gets a CRT, then the next guy/his buddy/etc needs one too. No question FH has most likely recouped their investment in their G90 stock at this point (geez, at least I'd hope so!), and if they get 2 sales a year of their remaining G90s, then they are correct in leaving the pricing where they are.
IT does indeed make my G90s look good, so I'm fine with it.
Case, if you're serious about a G90 or two, and can handle the shipping price of $1K each, probably $1800ish for 2, email me.

Cheers Curt, wont be straight away, and ill have to sway AussieAl to buy the 2nd one. Will email you sometime soon if i think it might go ahead. I wouldnt mind a G90, should get a very long life out of it... The 15.75kHz thing is important for me though, the XG does that beautifully for my retro gaming

Have a look here at the close up XG mate, huge respect on the arcade forums for those razor sharp scanlines and faultless convergence

Sure, just let me know. There definitely isn't a shortage of G90s out there, at least ones that are coming into me, but it's very rare that they have <1000 hours on them.

like someone said 8 years ago FH video made a deal with sony (US only?) to buy most of their remaining inventory of CRT projectors. I remember it being around "20" NIB G90's and various b-stock units as least this is what I think I remember. I spoke with them about it at their booth at CEDIA around 2003-4. I think they wanted 23kish then. The impression I got was that they would go through the inventory in a year or so. Two years later I heard they did not sell many and had plenty still available. Even if they bought the entire lot for <$1000 per projector I bet this was not a good investment just like when Madrigal CRT was sold and the Vidikron inventory. In both cases I know they were not profitable. At this point in time (early 2000) the demand and support rapidly diminished for FP CRT. Whoever was the future analyst knew what they were doing. NEC being the first. The FH video business model says to me "Wealthy investor creates pet business and is unwilling to cut losses due to pride so keeps it afloat"

Seems that way with anything technological today. With the surplus laptops I sell on ebay, I've learned to list them quickly rather than sitting on them, waiting for another one to come in to make 1 good one out of 2. Within 6 months, it seems the value has halved 30%, and 18 months later, I may as well send them to the recycler. The only 'investment' is vintage electronics, but as an accountant pointed out years ago, sitting on a NOS Pioneer receiver for 40+ years, and selling it for triple what you bought it for still won't be a good investment...

virusc,
That is interesting. IIRC, used G90s were going for $10k to $12k in that time frame. Maybe if FH would have cut their prices by twenty to thirty percent then they would have sold all of them. Oh well. It is his problem, but at least he has a nice screening room with plenty of spares.

Abolutely not, light guns only work on 15.75kHz signals, and we have hours and hours of Point Blank comps. I have no need for a processor for any other source though either.
Its not so much about being a purist, more so about things working the way they should. I could use a Sony 1001 or 1044 for this, but there is no space to set up 2 in my loungeroom.

Maybe you should. The insane sharpness of the G90 means you REALLY have to aim to get points.

Nah mate works better on the bigger machines due to brighter image ( more so the blue, which is what the light gun sees mostly, there was a phase where we had a guy who would wave his hat infront of the blue lens right before a critical shot which caused it to misfire... ) can always set up an input with the focus wound out abit
I dont need to worry about static images from the games cause im playing those on the 5:4 screen using the whole tube face ( safe area ) all static images are well outside of the 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 screens.
If someone could help me add an RGB input to my two 1001s via the OSD circuit then maybe id set up a dedicated shipping containter for shooters!!

Hmmm I have dual Ampro 4000's. Maybe I should do a head to head with them. Then again I'd have to keep both running at the same time.
