This is very tempting, looks good, it is in great condition, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would blew up at the first power up after 15 years of sitting.

Maybe there is a nice guy around there who will sell you some cheep new bellows. :wink.
I'm sure there is no buyers for it. 9500LC Ultra is so cheep these days that no one will pay anything for a 8500

Yeah but it will most likely blow up when you are already there, however that could be a good reason for droping the price

Don't count on it blowing up.. I Don't think Marquee machines just blow up like that.. My 1500 hour 9500LC from 1996 Don't have any issues and not a single cap who not measure perfect.
But the boring thing is to change bellows. Thats not a part of the description on Ebay..
I just walked away from a 8500AC with 3500hours moome v3 card DVDO VP50 and a HD furry3 for 400$
We were arranging the pickup when the guy changed the deal, suddenly it was a furry2 and he wanted to keep the VP50.
And i just cant deal with people that change their mind after we have agreed about the price and terms.

No question that if I were getting the set, I'd spend 2-3 hours stripping the chassis down, bleeding the tubes or changing the bellows, using DeOxIt on all module connectors, etc. Don't think it needs recapping, but it definitely could have some issues after sitting idle for 15 years.
Personally I think it's overpriced, but then again I wouldn't have paid $1300 for an as is G90 the other day either.

Well the nice thing for us CRT nerds, is that there is no marked for these things, so we can just sit still and wait until the price fits what we like to pay.
Here in Denmark i'm not even sure anyone would show up if i wanted to give mine away.

He was nice in his response to me. there is another guy who is selling a set of 8 inch LC tubes that are shot. he listed them and NEW.
I also sent him a message that they are not new and pointed out why. He is now trying me to buy them. I should. I'll have two sets of 8 inch LC housings then. I can convert the long bows to 9" and take the longbows minty tubes and put them In the 8" LC housings.
A quad hybrid blend!!! 4k would be a breeze
Or I could move the blend to the floor and stack on the ceiling the 9 inchers.

I also don't think the capactors are bad, but they are highly unformatted, that means the first charging current can be 10x as a usual, count on this for every buffer caps, adding ~10-20 Ohms series with each supply lines would effectively protect any inrush current though

Sadly not. I clearly remember a guy who put up a post for a parts machine NEC XG 135 here, "no shipping" then half a year later the guy posted a picture with the XG dumped in a trash bin with everything thorn, the tubes looked still good!
It would be great if we could get CRTs at American prices without the additional shipping costs!

if you guys got together and could wait and do a group buy and fill a shipping container, CRT's electronics, etc.

That would be the only right solution.. But there is still no buyers in Europe.. So doubt we would ever be able to cover the floor of the smallest container..

Since his location isn't that far from where I live, I called him a while back about it (since it was listed on his website but without a price), and at that point, he wanted $3,000. If it gets down to $1000, I'd consider it.
