After 3 complete re-tubes of my 4600HD (that's good enough for any projector and we're talking about a AmPro here), I decided it was time to make a change. And to all you AmPro bashers NO, it's not broken. It's still hanging and running just fine. So much for AmPro's bad track record. I pulled down the screen, snaked up some new cabling and hung a big honkin Samsung LED panel and I'm liking it.

In your case, it is probably a wise decision. Outside of my father (who turns the TV on all day whether he watches it or not), you are the only person I know who uses a TV 10 hours a day.

Wow, you really have it on 10 hours a day? You're definitely a prime guinea pig for testing the longevity of a digital. I think a bunch of us will be interested to hear the ongoing reports. If you stop posting, we'll know... there's nothing to report!

It's just one anecdote, but I bought the wife an Ölevia back in '06 or '07 I think. It sure isn't on 10 hours/day, but I'd guess it's probably averaged at least 4 hours/day. So, what's that, at least 8 or 9,000 hours. Not the best TV in the world, but it's still working perfectly.
As another data point, it seems like the vast majority of broken TVs I see on Cragislist have busted screens.

No question that a lot of stuff breaks at turnon, so my guess is that 10 hours a day will actually end up being a better lifespan than some that turns the set on 2-3 times a day. Still, the heat buildup will be a constant. I'm not saying yay or nay on this one at all, I'm just curious how it will work out, that's all.

Funny, I felt somehow the AmPros always sympathetic, never seen one in person though, but I'd really like to watch one.

My Samsung 55" LCD is four years old and is on probably 14 hours a day at least... I leave it on for the cats
I haven't seen much problems with Samsungs and I recommend them to all my clients because they calibrate so darn nice to boot.

I've got right around 25K hours on my oldest Pioneer plasma, no problems with it at all.
It's a PRO-1000HD, I bought it new in 2002 or 2003.

I do think that LG and Samsung are pretty decent, save for the bad capacitor class action lawsuit Samsung had. Still, the simplest flat screens to fix, 8 minutes flat.
LG suffers from the same thing, although they did it right, they had the caps fail WELL outside of the warranty period, not right outside like Samsung did.
Sony has a lot of bad LCD panels. Seen the same with Samsung. they delaminate and show all sorts of issues.

Nashou | A couple of months ago you were talking about loading up a set of these for your own Quee.
Did you do it and how did you find the focus at high contrast?
