Lots of good info on the multiple scams he's pulled over the years

Naa...he's been a douche for several years. I think Curt was the first one to get screwed over a Barco 808. Now it seems Gary has gotten good at it. Prior to just simply not shipping product he was a snake oil salesman. Going back to when he trying to hawk balanced power nonsense. He claimed his XG had deeper blacks because he was feeding it with balanced power.

It seems that this has gone on for a long time now. However, I have to say that back when Gary did SDI mods on DVD players I sent quite a feew of my clients to him for the mods. He always came through and did good work for all my cleints. I also claibrated one of his projectors a long time ago and he was good to deal with in my experience. But I have seen tons of stories now from others who have gotten screwed.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I think he started out with the best of intentions. Then he just got in over his head and didn't have the testicles to say it. From there it snowballed.

As for going to his house, he isn't close to anything. I sure as hell wouldn't drive all that way even if I was in the vicinity.

I have been thinking that for a long time. I've said it out loud to clients who used him in the past and later asked me about him.

He does live waaaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere. It took me forever to get to his place when I calibrated his projector.

I actually agree with that. He called me out of the blue one time to talk about my XG. He seemed like a decent guy, extremely enthusiast about HT. The dumbest thing he ever did was start to modify a projector that wasn't working to start with so he had no reference. Then he spot burned a LUG and it went down hill from there. He didn't get much sympathy from users after that.

It seems like someone posted some images of his soldering work in the past. The quality left a lot to be desired.

Guys, that's no justification for not shipping stuff. In over your head is one thing. Selling something on eBay isn't rocket science.

It's possible that he ran out of money, and is living day to day. (I don't know, I'm guessing here). People that don't have money will rob Peter to pay Paul....

I can understand this feeling but it seems he has continued on and then some so its now a decision he has made and that puts him a totally different class. Something to avoid at all costs. Thumbs Down

Ok, I have to come in here and say this. Yes gary is an idiot. However, Italian Post is even more idiotic. I sent a set of bellows out on september 3rd. The buyer never got them after two months, I told his as well to wait. wait and wait. So in late novemebr I sent out another set to him. Figured I lost a set of bellows and some $$$. then about three weeks later I get a package, the original Bellows I sent!!! Came all the way back from Italy. In the mean time the buy got his new set in less than three weeks.

Go figure. maybe the parts will come back ? it took about 3.5 months for mine to get back to me.

Oh, I think we've all had issues with overseas shipping. I ship every week all over the globe, and at least twice a year I have to resend something, or as even within the US or Canada, a customer doesn't get the notice in their mailbox that something is at the post office, and it gets returned. Even from the US to Canada, it can take a month to get a box back.

Still, it's very simple to give a customer a tracking number to show that it's in transit.

I'm certainly not saying it's ok just because he started out with good intentions; quite the opposite. I am just saying that I have an understanding of how it may have started for Gary. That is not forgivness, it's like me saying that I understand that an apple will fall to the ground if I drop it.

Trust me, the guy is a sh*t-For-Brains!!! Gary!

I still have all the original PMs from AVS and from here about me attempting to purchase a SDI moded DVD player.

My only saving grace was Paypal.

And, it does not seen to be a coincidence that his last projector he was talking about was the 1209s.

Man, when is he going to learn!

Sad to see Gary still at it. I posted a warning late last year (http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=358711#358711) when those Barco parts starting being posted that I thought it was Gary. Was nearly tempted to buy a couple of things till I figured out who it likely was.
