Yes, the box itself is nothing to look at. Even some of the reviewers comment on this, for example:

http://www.hometheater.com/content/darbee-visual-presence-darblet-video-enhancer

It's what you see up on the screen or display that matters.

The box does not alter HDCP.

If they put it in a nice case with a brushed aluminum face, it would take space in the rack, and it would add another $75 to the street price of the product. As it is, it fits behind a TV without taking any space at all, and people are already complaining about the price, so...

If the look of the piece really bothers a guy, he can always buy a nice kit case or gut a vintage piece and just stick the Darbee inside. Wink

I prefer something that's hidden away. The Darblet is tiny, no bigger than a small HDMI switcher:

Easy to hide somewhere. IMHO once you've played with a bit to try the various settings, you'll leave it in HD mode around 30-40 or so and that's it. You'll never touch it again.

Hey, when do people NOT complain about the pric?. My projector pricing, my repair pricing, the Fury, Moome, blah blah... Mr. Green

I too would have preferred to see a metal cabinet with a rack mount option, but that's just me.

Is Lumagen offering a trial period. I'd like to see what it can do on the G90 and be able to return it if it doesn't live up to the hype.

I sent a note in yesterday to see what the return policy was and if it's the same they offer on the Radiance. For comparison sake, on the Lumagen it's a 10% restocking fee.

LOL, I see how you stuck that in there for this crowd. Some probably even started crying as they imagined their beloved Heathkit being turned into some Frakendigitalvp thingy. Twisted Evil

Darbee is trying to make it as cheap as possible. This product is mostly just a glorified demo piece to get manufacturers to buy in. I am not saying there is anything wrong with it or possibly could be. The real money is licensing the tech.

I don't know about now, but AVS used to have a money back guarantee. Not sure if that was Darbee or AVS though.

Yup! I've been working with Jim of Lumagen and the following seems very fair and has now been posted on the order page:

NO RISK RETURN POLICY: You may return your Darblet within 15 days for a 100% refund (minus original shipping costs).

So you basically get all your money back minus the cost of what it cost to ship it to you in the first place. Customer pays return shipping. That's what seems the fairest to me. We can't cover 100% of the costs as otherwise we'd get people buying just for curiousity sake with no intentions of keeping it (I've been burned with that in the past).

This return policy is completely different from warranty issues: If for some reason the unit does not work correctly per the manufacturer specifications then you will be looked after. The warranty covers that. This no return return policy is simply for those people that think they may not like the results for some reason.

I read a bunch of the comments at Amazon and there are some comments on sync issues that are likely HDMI cable issues. Use a longer HDMI cable. But generally the comments are very positive (17 5-star ratings and only 1 1-star). FWIW I use Amazon reviews a lot to get a general feel for a product but don't read the individual reviews. I just look at the overall bar chart to make sure it's more heavy on the top end (5-star) than the bottom end (1-star).

Our order page is here:

+1.

There are people out there who seem to be able to have trouble with just about everything, so there will always be outliers. As you mentioned, go look at almost any source/switcher/display, and you'll find people who had problems, whether because of their particular set of devices, cable length, or something else. Regardless, 17 five-stars and a single one-star says "very solid product" to me - especially with a device that's probably going into a pretty complex signal chain a lot of the time.

Yep. A technical product often gets lower reviews too because people generally don't RTFM.

I'll even sometimes see people give 1-star reviews because they were sent the wrong product even though Amazon fixed their mistake. How exactly is that a "review" of the product?

So trending is really all I look at and you need to make sure there are enough reviews to make it meaningful.
