Thanks Kai. My lead is broadly similar - price is about the same.
I think I'll give Azzad a call and see what I can get locally of the non-cheddar variety.
I shudder to think what happens when someone runs 10m of HDMI through a wall and then it doesn't work....

C'mon it never does. Just as long as you can keep a roof over your equipments head and yours too and feed/cloth/insure you and yours then keep buying.
You can stop any time. No really. You can.
BTW good choice on the switcher. Have you heard about the power suplly problem some of the ISS switchers have? Seems every now and again you have to tighten the power suplly screws. I think I read that on the A site. Sorry no link for you. Their search engine won't give it to me today.

Yes, it's a ground issue between the PS circuit board and the case. Have to tighten the screws.

Wouldn't a ground strap like those found on the engine mounts for cars fix this issue?

I think it is about time I add some new screenshots here
Video card is now an ATI HD2600XT, DVI out into NEC ISS-6020 with moome ISS-HD (HDMI in).
Resolution/refresh rate: 1920x1080i at 95.904 Hz
some notes:
-my green tube has some wear on the left side (during most movies I don't even notice it at all, in some movies I'll notice it a couple of seconds, and very few movies have scenes where you would notice it more frequently)
- I'm using point convergence with a max. correction range of one line (i.e. 1 line width at 1920x1080). But with one exception: the top left corner due to a non-uniformity there. Unfortuantely I have over-used point there, so you see a thin line in some pictures. I simply forgot to correct that (it's not on the tubes, just a setup error).
So, these screenshots are not altered to hide any deficiencies

close-up shots of the same image:

This shot of the same image is closer to the actual perceived brightness in my theater (ignore the loss of detail due to over-exposure):

The PQ of the 6PG+, mine popped out in 1994, is amazing for the $ paid, it actually had a bit better PQ with brown wear and tear on the tubes then a 708s with cleaner tubes, made in 1998. There's really only two problems with the NEC line, too heavy for the tube size, and way too noisy. So if you don't have a problem with size and weight, and have a nice solution for the noise factor (like diving in to the whole exchanging fans thingy), it's really hard to get a better pj and PQ for the same price, especially if you want to have a sharper image than a cleaner ES focus pj, after heavy wear and tear on the tubes.

Updated 1080i96 timings that result in spot on 95.904 Hz (96/1.001).
Note that the porches are identical in both my previous and updated timings. It's the microsecond and millisecond values that differ.
Something most Powerstrip users don't know:
the displayed refresh rate is usually not identical to what the videocard actually outputs (Reclock users know that).
However, Powerstrip has a feature that tells you the actual refresh rate.
You just have to go to the Display Profiles configuration dialog and double-click on the camera icon under "Refresh rate" (see attached pic).

The actual refresh rate trick doesn't work on interlaced resolutions, at least on my PC. (On both XP and Vista).
Rik Wang said that is still a guess. It's all integrated over time, so it's an average.

Apparently it does work for me though.
However, I cannot use the latest Powerstrip version (I'm one of those affected by the 50 percent CPU load bug). And I really want to start playing with it since it allows us to write the extended EDID block.

Heh, I just noticed that I hadn't updated this thread with new screenshots after installing a new set of tubes.
So here they come (I already posted them to another thread last January):
Screenshot time again:
