I have a NEC XG 1100, manufactured July 1996. When I turn on the projector, I hear the clicking noise as it tries to lock on, but it doesn't display anything on screen. It only briefly flashes every ~4 seconds and I can make out that it says "unregistered signal." I can't use the remote to do anything but turn the projector on or off - it doesn't respond to any other commands.

This happened once before a while ago, but the problem just randomly went away the next time I turned on the projector. I tried power cycling a few times to no avail, but maybe it will go away again...

Is this the "scrambling mess" issue I've heard about, or is it related?

Sources tried:
    PS3 (HDMI) -> Moome EXT-HD -> Projector
    PC -> VGA at several resolutions and refresh rates

Bad system board most likely. I"m working on two right now with the same issue. BEst thing is to shoot me your system board and I'll try and repair, or swap it for a working one.
