There's a mouthfull. Sony 1292; I've started adjusting my projector and noticed that the two lens focus rings for the red tube do not slide as easily as the other two. I cannot rotate one ring clockwise and the other counterclockwise all the way around. Instead I can dial them in together close enough.

Do I need to completely remove the tube and lens, then separate them once out of the machine? Are there directions for this anywhere?

Man, ask a question that I don't think anyone has ever answered before.

Short answer: I don't know, and you're probably right. Smile Fortunately, the tube comes out easily out the front of the set. Do any disassembly of the tube far away from the projector, and keep in mind that you've got a pint of glycol behind that concave C element. You might want to drain it before you go further. Otherwise if you spill it, I've got more in stock, replacing it isn't a big deal.

Let us know how you make out, and if you want to write an article on each step you take with pictures, we'd be happy to put it on the site for others to use as well.

So I can just remove the four screws holding it in place and slide it out like I'm delivering a baby? I don't disconnect the yolk first?

Edit: I see. http://antistreakchip.com/index.php/remove-cover

I went ahead and went balls deep:

And found out it was a cracked ring:

I'm going to try and work it to the numbers I need, and replace it later.

Well that's cute! I may have a spare old housing I can rob a ring from... maybe.

Let me know if you need one, I can try and dig one up next week.

I think I've got a line on one, but if it falls through I'll send you a PM. I would have thought this part would have been impossible to find. Do you know how these rings work? Do they basically just put tension on the springs and gap the distance between the crts and lenses? Because although mine are dialed into the correct values, they are not sitting flush with each other.
