I have a mitsubishi vs1281 projector that is power cycling due to an error code 3. Can anyone here help me with service manual for this project. t or. It looks like I need to remove the tubes to access the power 2 board. This projector has les than 300 hours on it and the tubes are in perfect condition. The unit worked when I put it in storage 2 years ago but will not power up. Any help would be appreciated

If the machine had worked before you put in the storage room, then I assume your problem is somehow connected to aging (leaking) capacitors, and with a little luck you'd able to fix it only with changing the bad capacitors.

Unless its board corrosion that had not made it that far back then.

I Wouldn't assume either of the above, guys. A transistor or chip is far more likely to blow at turnon after something has been in storage for a while than a cap. Just IMHO.

Since your trying to access the power 2 board then I guess you already know the error code 3 is a power problem for the convergence, focus or deflection board. Just remember that it may not necessarily be a power supply problem but a short on 1 of the other boards causing a draw on the supply triggering the code.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I figured due to the error code the power supply boards would be a good place to start. Frustrating that most of the boards on this projector are socketed and on slide rails and are easily removed but Def not the power boards they are at the very bottom of the device. To be more specific on what is going on.... When I first attempt to power on the device the LED display shows error code 3 as soon as the fans kick on the LED display dims and the device power cycles

I think you need at least 5 posts to attach pictures directly, so post one more, or put them up to an image sharing site.

Sometimes just cleaning the connectors well and reseating all the boards might get it going.

But as Mac said there could be a voltage fault on the one of the boards throwing that code.

Now just finding which voltage line has the issue.

I'm going to do my best to do what I can to get this unit running again because when it was working the picture quality was just amazing. I know just enough about electronics to get myself into trouble. If I can not figure out the fault with this projector I will probably part it out. Like I said the tubes are spotless and when I put this projector away a few years ago it had less than 300 total hours on it. Would the tubes have any value?
