well if the caps were just all replaced by tantalum ones, that's ok Wink
tantalums have better specs than most other caps and do not fail that often.
the mods just look ugly and i'll make sure they are electrical safe...
the hot glue is my work, i just wanted them secured in place, so they won't short out against chassis ground or other components.

if i can't get lucky with it, first seller will have to live with the consequences and you guys can jump in queue for tubes or anything you think is worth having...

i forgot to mention that the set has high spec papst fans everywhere and is almost quiet but maintains a good airflow.

TV/Projector: All of them!

Nah, I think you got a good deal overall. Even if you need to replace a board or two, they are relatively cheap and plentiful. Even though the green has a bit of wear, it's completely useable, and with the HDMI card and C elements, there's the value of what you paid for it right there.

Mike can chime in, but those are NOT his mods! I've seen lots of his work, and he wouldn't do that. Smile I'm guessing the person that modded came to this site, looked at the Dragan mods, and said 'I can do this for cheaper'.

yes, indeed, he did! Very Happy

But 36Kv? It most likely won't affect the tubes, but if you have access to an HV probe, I would turn it down a bit. That's the left pot on the side of the HVPS as you look at it pulling it out (towards the front of the HVPS). I'm assuming that CW is turning it up, CCW is turning it down, but I've never had to play with that pot.

I thinkt he Marquee will be fine once you figure out that garbled video issue. It was most likely from the glycol. I hope you figure it out. Some of the mods are actually not bad.

Id like to see the HVPS.

I bet he didn't know about the 33uf 700vdc Clarity caps they could have used instead of a bunch daisy chained together.

Hope you get it going though. Still a great deal, glycol problems are a bitch!!!

Completely modding the PJ with wet tants everywhere is insanely expensive. I did this for the Conv and Stig boards for about $80 in parts. The VNB and power supplies are the areas where the dynamic range can be improved the most but there are other options that may potentially yield the same or better results for considerably less money. All of this is meaningless if the tubes aren't in top condition and the set up is first rate.

All right she's up and Running!!!! Woo Hoo!! I think I am more excited than you are!!! Wink

But be careful with that tube that pushed out. I would still remove it from the housing, clean the old glycol out and
re pot it in place. Just adding more Silicon wont hold it for long.

Looks like they followed Chris Stevens mod sheet. Those must be 1uf COG ceramic caps all over the place twisted together.

Can you take a picture of the soldered sides of those Film Caps in the HVPS. Looks like they might wired them wrong.

How many for each Rail? looks like they might not have enough voltage if in Parallel.

Yes, having them in Parallel they increase the uf , so you add uf so 2 10uf caps equal one 20uf cap but the voltages get divided by the number of components. so if those are 600 volts then they are now 300 volts. The G2 section goes higher than 300volts. To increase voltage of multiple caps you put them in series, but then you halve the uf's.

The G2 section benefits from adding 20-40uf's. That looks like what they were trying to accomplish.

Excuse me, What? If you put capacitors parallel the capacitance will be added and the maximal voltage will be the lowest rating of all capacitors, if all caps the same, then no change.
10pcs. 1uF 600V caps in parallel equal to a 10uF 600V cap.
