everything is back together, and guess what: i doesn't work !
starting up is fine, no errors but a static image on all tubes and no reaction to remote input at all Sad
pulled color correction module, hd input card : doesn't change a thing Sad
sliding controller and vim in and out several times to check for bad contacts: no...

so i suspect a controller issue, maybe during boot up, because it doesn't come up with any errors showing !

i already wrote to the seller, asking him what may be wrong !

any ideas from you guys ?

'Ultra' designation wasn't available in 1994, it was still M8000/9000 era! AFAIK for upgrading that to a 9500 Ultra you have to change almost every board, so the original build date doesn't say much except for the age of the metal chassis (and maybe the tubes)
What is the model number? P38-xxxxx

ok, here we go...
disassembled the projector a bit further today, to look out for bad contacts and possible causes for the static picture and no reaction to the remote.
took the left panel off and recognized a spill of glycol underneath the red tube that got down the fan tunnel and down to the neckboard onto the mainboard Evil or Very Mad

so red tube got pulled out and i found out that it's leaking from all way round the silicon where it's mounted in the housing.
glycol must have pulled moisture and pushed the tube back about 1mm.
pushed the tube back, cleaned all way round and gave it a good new silicone treatment.
i got really curious how the other tubes are, so i went checking and found no glycol leaks from green and blue.

now it was time to check the glycol on the other tubes, so i started taking out the screw from the green chamber...
i all went well until i came to the last turn on the screw...and it went FLYING...
followed by a fountain of glycol that had enough pressure to it to hit the ceiling at 2,70m from the floor Thumbs Down
glycol everywhere - in my hair, face, clothes...and everywhere in a circle of 2m diameter around the projector!
unfortunately a nice amount of it rained down on and into the projector... OMG !

after washing myself and cleaning the surrounding area, i started cleaning the projector.
blue tube had to come out, all the boards, power supplies, fan assembly...
i completely took it to bits, except the blue tube that somehow didn't catch any glycol and wasn't to much in the way for cleaning.

very nice machine to work on, in my opinion better than the barcos and a tiny step above the nec xg Cool

after three hours, two rolls of toilet paper, huge amounts of compressed air and nearly a can of circuit board cleaner and contact spray, it was almost as good as new and i had almost every single connector off and on for at least once.

in the process of reassembling i routed all the wires a bit different and made a nice harness...made it a lot nice to look at and everything is neat and tidy now Thumbs Up
i also made some new foam ventilation ducts for underneath the tubes, the old ones were not spongy and almost falling apart.

...still had not checked the blue tube !!!
covered everything with rags and took out the glycol chamber screw with EXTREME coution - NOTHING Neutral
just a tiny bit of glycol coming out.
i took out about 5ml of glycol, to be safe.

tomorrow i will put the red tube back and level the glycol in all tubes...and i really hope that it will be working then...
PLEASE PLEASE Rolling Eyes

Those are wet tants on the Stig amp board and the VDM. Not a Mike Parker signature. That either is a Custom job by the owner or Chris Stevens. But he used wet's everywhere.

But make sure no glycol got on the back plane Board. I bet it did, and you have to remove the mother board to get to it. Id do it now and be sure.

Take a pic of the FGM/FCM focus board. if it has part on 100% of it then its an Ultra. Looks like the VDM has Ultra mods.

hi, the backplane board is alright...fortunately !
according to the model number, it is a 9000lc Sad
http://www.etechvideo.com/techtip4.htm

but according to the mods it might count as an 9500ultra
there are wet tantalum caps everywhere and a lot of the electrolytics are rubycon caps now.
the mods seem to be very extensive and some are not related to anything i have seen before...
...i'll take more pictures tomorrow !

Sorry, but those 'mods' look hideous. That's exactly why I don't recommend them, unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing. The worst I've seen was a power amp, where someone had taken off every disc capacitor, rated at maybe 50 volts, and soldered in 600 volt poly caps, that were 10X the size. They wouldn't fit, so the modder had extended the leads with short 3-4cm wires, and the caps were hanging off the board. The customer was mad that I refused to touch the amp! Smile

But I digress...

That's pretty typical with the glycol pressure. I too learned the hard way to take those screws off outside Smile I also had a face and hairful of glycol, once and it's also normal for the tubes to have uneven pressure on them.

thi is it:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/110975277570

it was advertised as a 9500lc and he sent me a mail because is asked about date, etc:

"Hallo,

Der Projektor ist von 97 bis 2000. Es ist ein Ultra - also erweitertes Fokusboard und hdm. Auch sie Software ist entsprechend.

Gruß"

"...projector is from production date range 1997-2000. i is an ultra - has extended focus board and hdm. software is according."

...well...what the hell is it now ?

yeah the mods are a bit crazy...wait until you see the other pictures Very Happy
the hv power supply has an array of poly caps in it that almost fills it up completely.
they were almost loose, so i fixed them with hot glue.
seller told me on pickup that the hv power supply was modified to 36kv ?! wtf !
somehow the person who did all these mods must have known what to do,
he certainly put a LOT of effort and money into it !
wait until you see the rest...maybe i'll win a price for the most f***** up mods done to this poor thing.

anyway...if everything screws up, i can hopefully still sell the tubes...they are not modded as far as i can see Very Happy
