I wish Outlaw would have had more of thier product available when I bought my Pioneer.

I was looking at them but everything was sold out or in development.

Emotiva just had way too many issues to go there.

Nice looking piece though.

You were far from the only one who couldn't wait. Despite the fact that I, personally, over the years, have had several Outlaw pieces including two multi-channel power amps that are currently on my rack and are great performers, in the last 5 years they have announced and eventually cancelled the introduction of THREE different Pre-Pros. As a result, even the most loyal Outlaw customer was getting pretty cynical so, even though I probably won't purchase it, this announcement is somewhat of a pleasant surprise.

Interesting. As Ron says, I haven't kept up with Outlaw in years because of the lack of products. I may be in the market for a new pre/pro next month and this might fit the bill.

I have been holding out as I am fine with my adcom 830 , but at that price I might finally make the switch to HDMI.

Have been looking through the manual. looks really nice and the matched op amps in critical signal paths sounds great for that price!!

For the price it is IMHO a no brainer when coupled with a great amp/amps. Based on what I remember seeing when I was in the market several years ago.

What I paid for my Elite AVR I could have bought this and some killer amps and still have some dollars to rub together.

When I was in The market It was the Marantz,Integra/Onkyo,Anthem or the big dogs like Lexicon, Theta, Krell etc.

Almost bit on a great used Lexicon but the silver faceplate killed it for me. I still would have had to get some amps.

Making good/reliable pre/pro's is a complicated mess. Trying to get into this sort of price bracket just makes it all that more difficult. I figured Outlaw was on their last legs with them selling/announcing other companies receivers on their websites over the last few years (looked like end of stock stuff). Hopefully this can help them a bit.

There's no audio EQ or anything which is unfortunate. The email they sent out mentioned this. I would have at least liked some sort of basic Audyssey type automated EQ.

I missed that part. I saw HDMI out with ARC and assumed that was like the ANTHEM ARC but turns out that;

B. HDMI Output with ARC
Audio Return Channel receives audio signals from a
connected TV.

Would be nice no doubt. But, I am sure it would make the price point closer to $1,000. Regardless even at that price point and the 975 proves to be reliable and not a dud with issues like the Emotiva has/had the Outlaw should be a good piece. Just need to set-up the old fashion way.

What I can't figure out with Outlaw is back a few months ago when they announced the cancellation of their third "more expensive and feature laden" Pre-Pro(978) because of the alleged interference of a competitor who leaned on the manufacturer to all of a sudden cancel Outlaw's contract, only a few months later they are able to introduce this unit?

Very strange.

Here is a good review.

http://hometheaterreview.com/outlaw-audio-model-975-71-av-surround-sound-processor-reviewed/?utm_source=Model+975+Reviewed&utm_campaign=Model+975+Reviewed&utm_medium=email

I agree with many of his points about features. I could care less about some and there is redundancy
in A/V equipment.

I think when i save up some extra scratch i'm in !

What appeals to you guys about this thing? Only 4 HDMI inputs, no networking, it's a preamp but has no balanced outputs, it has no Audyssey or other room correction, no auto-setup... I mean, I kind of like the small, light, minimalist approach, which would be very cool in a nice living room setup, but then are you even doing separates in that system?

Unless I'm missing something, for the same money, I guess I'd just get an Onkyo TX-NR709 or comparable Denon.

I agree, but the reviewer did say it compares favorably with his Onkyo. I am still leaning towards the Onkyo and that is what will probably end up in my rack.

Some just don't like all that other stuff. I have read also on some forums that many used odyssey for a while then had issues with
there receivers and sent them in for repair. While they had their receiver out they put in the old stand by with no EQ and did it by the old method. What they found was they liked the manual set up much more. They remember like the reviewer said why they bought their speakers to begin with! Aslo i agree with the reviewer, there is lots of redundancy. And for me I use my theater for movies only, once in a while TV or music( when I'm calibrating the blend or doing other work).

So a cheap Pre amp to hook up to my Adcom amps works best for me.

I prefer to not pay for stuff I will never use. That is why this product appeals to me. I agree it is low on HDMI but I can deal with it, the same with not having balanced outputs I would have liked them for at leats the sub. Honestly in a rack situation is it 100% required?
Half the time auto set-up gets me in the ball park but tweeking manually is needed. This unit still has a full EQ and you can get rta software and do a manual eq. It will take more time but yield better results IMHO. I could care less to stream audio/video on lan through my AVR. I would use my HTPC, BD players have this option most of the time or a streaming type device like a Boxee or gasp! and apple tv.

The Emotiva unit seemed to fair out well in the review also with 5 starts from home theater review. It has auto set-up and a balanced out for the sub only.

I think it is a nice option for those whom sperates would not be a possibility. Spending thousands on a processor that would only see me using less then a quarter of bells and whistles is pointless in my eyes. I would rather tie that money up in a component audio/video or speakers that I would enjoy much, much more then say a lan port that is sitting un-used along with multiple other Legacy inputs etc.

I think I am about the pull the trigger on the Onkyo unless someone can give a good reason to go with the Outlaw. Newegg has the TX-NR717 for $499 shipped this weekend.

Spanky,

If you are looking for XLR outputs analog inputs and a more feature rich processor I would say got for the Onkyo. The Outlaw unit will not provide what you are looking for in that area.

Outlaw gives a 30 money back Guarantee, no questions asked. Why not try it?
