Anybody's who's interested in Smarthome's Insteon gear might be interested in this: Best Buy is now carrying Insteon hardware!
The reason this is exciting is some of the pricing. While Insteon is quote affordable compared to some of the alternatives, if you're buying any of the stuff in numbers, it adds up quickly. Well, apparently Best Buy is doing enough volume that they're getting some deals, because some of the prices are amazing.
This starter kit - a SmartLinc network controller, a dual-band access point range extender, and a LampLinc dual-band dimmer module, is on sale right now for $84.99 - down from $99.99. Even the regular price is great... The SmartLinc is normally $129.99 and is on sale sometimes for $99.99. So, you're basically getting what would cost around $200 or so from Smarthome for $85 from Best Buy.
They're not carrying the full product line, and the switches aren't currently discounted at all (I wish), but it's nice to see this stuff going a bit more mainstream, and also nice to see Best Buy starting to carry some more stuff that geeky people like me might actually be interested in. If they keep this up, I might have to start shopping there again!
Cheers,
SC
