Mac,
I may have said that at first, but going through it the last few days that is an improper diagnosis, so you can ignore that.
I'll test the other channels tomorrow. I just got a pallet of 30 home theater receivers so now I have loads of them to go through, I've already fixed 5 of them.
I'll take some time tomorrow to work on the AVR-981 so we can see if we can get it going and on its way!
I'm just curious, I don't wanna make this a double topic, but the receiver im working on (is yet again another denon) its an AVR-1312, and the issue with it is the front display does not illuminate at all, and when powered up it powers up and the green power LED just stays solid, no amplifier relay click, just the initial power relay click. What would be the cause possibly? I would settle for a Service manual though if I could find one, this unit is rather simple. The amplifier outputs check out fine as well.
Just looking for your thoughts on that issue quick and then we'll focus on this AVR-981 again

The no display and such is probably a lost voltage. Shoot me an email and I'll attach the manual.
On this one, your probably going to have to put together a signal tracer. If you where here when I told Chip how to do it then I wont have to rewrite it. Or if someone has the link. Then i can tell you where to start looking.

That'd be cool if you or someone could do that mac. It would be useful to have around anyway

It's nothing special. Just take another working receiver and hook 1 speaker to it. Chip just uses headphones. Then take 1 input, doesn't matter which one and an extra pointed test lead you have laying around. Devise a way to connect that test lead to the center of the audio input you chose. Also have another test wire with alligator clips on both ends. Connect one clip to the test receiver input ground and the other end to the broken receiver input ground. This is so both receivers are grounded to each other. Then connect a source to the broken receiver multi input right input and turn on and select multi in. Turn on the test receiver and select the input your test lead is connect to. So now, when you use the test lead and touch the back side of the input connector of the broken receiver you should hear the sound come through the test receiver speaker.
When your done putting this together and have tested it to work let me know and I'll tell you where to begin.

Mac,
Just thought I would let you know I haven't pursued the AVR981 yet, and as for the 1312 same story. I figured I would put those aside again and check a few others out.
Also, I've managed to get the AVR-2307CI almost done, I'm waiting on a couple of parts from china yet but otherwise it should be good to go
So I'm just gonna let you know for now I'm taking a break on these denons. I could however use your help with a Sony that has a no power issue if you would be willing to help. It shouldn't be anything major, its a pretty bare receiver. If you're willing, I'll create a new topic for it.
Thanks again for the assistance thus far mac
