James i have been looking at the Sigma 22. I have a bunch of wall warts and love how that like the one I posted can power up to 4 components. The Lumagen XS power supplies are very robust so i think I'll leave them alone.

But I might try to make a single unit with two 5 volt outs and two 15 volts out to power the marquee Vims!!! No SMPS for them, the Marquee SMPS is full of noise.

Athanasios

Don't you think the Lumagen SMPS is full of noise to.?

I Don't know how much effect it have on the pic, but i for sure need to pull the plug off all SMPS when i play music on my setup..

I would love to compare the Theta Compli Blu with the OPPO 83 and see if there is a difference.

Looking forward to hear about your results.. Thumbs Up

I guess I spoke a week or two too soon!!!

And Yes I think they might be full of noise as well. And I wonder how clean those PC power supplies are? I bet they are cleaner than the wall warts.

well I ordered 5 σ11's. So this is what I need to know.

What size Transformer will I need. The lumens have 2* 5 volts @ 5A( probably 3A will be enough) the TV-Ones are2* 12 VDC@1A
then The Moome MUX probably 5VDC@1A also.

So I'll let you guys pic out the transformer for me.

Has to have enough current ability and enough power for all the devices, I want to add I might Want to add 2 more σ11's
later. SO it have to handle that. No more that probably 12 volts there for each.

I plan on using the Marquee heat sink Cut up for the Boards. One heat sink for each Board.

For the Lumagen section with the Higher current I might split the heat sink for each Mosfet so they dont use each others and make them a bit larger say a bit large than the board all the way around but split down the center
so each mosfet is isolated thermally from the other. the other board will use on board heat sinks. Those I already have
from an old Marquee LVPS I messed up long long ago. Wink

I plan on using Elna and Panasonic FM caps. And Dale or PRP resistors.

So what should I get?

My new Radiance Mini arrived today DOA! I think it's the power supply. Can't measure any voltage on its output and there is a faint clicking sound coming from it. Anyone in Ottawa (Kal?) got one I can borrow to make sure this thing works before I rage on Lumagen? Evil or Very Mad

That's odd as they are all pre-tested. Please send an email to support@lumagen.com and they will make this right for you, or you can also call directly (503-574-2211 ). Sorry for the issues.

Kal

So the Radiance itself is probably fine, but I doubt they tested the complete kit with the imported power supply that was included.

It is a TDC Power Products switching adapter model SA5D-050-4000

I wish they would use an internal supply like Extron, at least in their larger (non-Mini) products.

All though this may sound like a good idea it is not really a logical one. Most electronics failures are the power supply and making the power supply an external device makes it easier and more cost effective for the consumer. This way, "when" the power supply fails, you don't have to have the whole unit repaired and a substantial cost, you can just order another low cost supply. Separates are always better.

Lumagen is actually doing you a favor......

I agree with Mac on that one.

Although I would prefer a larger more robust toroidal based linear power supply. I am happy that Lumagen has chose to separate the PS and main unit. It simplifies the design process by using an off the shelf switching supply.

It also keeps the size of the product down and reduces emi introduction into the circuit keeping the signal cleaner does it not Mac?

I have no doubt that an external toroid power supply would drive costs way up but would gladly pay should they have chose to go that way. I love my Lumagen that much.

Fanboy for life right here.

Randy and Jim will take care of you just drop them a line. I personally would not "Rage" on anyone as sh*t happens. Vibrations in shipping could have jiggled something loose in the supply.

James

Fat lot of good this external P(O)S is doing me right now!

Yep I am "politely" discussing it with them right now Smile

PS - the rage is building up over several off-topic issues; you wouldn't believe what it took to import this thing (actually you might, as you are in Canada too) and now this Sad

It seems a lot of "sh!t" happens to me - I need to stop buying things that I don't really need Neutral

Yeah, I don't know what's up with Canada shipping lately. I just shipped a box yesterday to Canada and there is a new customs form, or at least 1 I never saw before. Required much more detail of the enclosed items. And the price was probably 3 times more for a short distance then to ship 3 times farther if it remained in the US.

Yeah I should set up a service for the southern ontario peeps. Ship stuff to my Diner and you guys can come pic it up, you'd have to stay and eat though while you pic it up. That would be the payment. Wink

lol

You got it........

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I took a stiff one in the rear from the UPS man when my Radiance was delivered as well.

You know what Nash. That might not be a bad idea. I got a quote from Emotiva for almost $300 to land an XPA-5 here. Might be worth renewing my passport so I can actually get over the boarder.

Something is seriously wrong with the shipping as of late though........

Regardless, I hope you are back up in no time and enjoying your new toy AVPhile.

On a side note. I got all the parts in for my "Wall Wart destroyer". I just called to today Wolgram (http://www.wolgrammfg.com/products/ruSeries.html) four a 2RU7 chassis. I'll have two different transformers and
5 Sigma 11's inside it. So I'll soon be building this. I hope my calculations will be correct for the
Radiance power supply sections. The heat sinks I got are about 2.5 inches tall. they should dissipate enough heat.
I just wish I knew exactly how much current the radiance draws at its peak demand.

Got a replacement PSU from Lumagen and it works!

Most of the shipping pain can be avoided by using air service not ground. Regular postal service is not bad either.

Although I would enjoy a trip to your diner Smile

For those Canadians close to the border (as you are, AVPhile), go across the border to Windsor and get a small PO box. Granted, I do tons of volume weekly, but were it not for a Wa. state PO box, I wouldn't have ANY online business at all.

Besides, the cheaper gas in the US completely justifies driving down. Mr. Green
