CRT's and the new OPPO 103, what HDMI>RGB TO use ?

Anyone have it yet?

Any inexpensive HDMI>RGB converters to use with it at 1080i?

There's only two options, the Fury or the Moome. Fury is a bit cheaper, but has lesser RGB processing from what I've read. I'd go for the Moome box, your image is only as good as your weakest link.

BTW, I am on the Oppo beta team and have been using the 103 for maybe 7 months. It's a really nice player and has come along well in its development.

I use it with a RadianceXE and Moome IFB v3/v4 into my G90.

Craig, how much better is BR performance compared to the 83? Significant improvements in video quality or just incremental? Not interested in 3D or any other gimmick features that many new product sales are based on.

If all you want is 2D BD playback than the BDP-83 may actually still be my favorite. The 93 and 103 don't offer improvements in BD video, just more features for things like streaming and network media playback.

The 103 does however do a really good job at extracting 480i DVD to 24Hz. The 24Hz can then be upsampled to 72Hz by a VP for judder free playback. The 93 was never good at 60>24 Hz extraction and the 83 can't do it.

That is exactly what I want to hear!!! With my blend I need to send 24hz all the way to the Tv-Ones that then up sample to 96hz. That is why i don't watch Sd DVD's on the blend , massive judder on SD sources. the Lumagen Also has trouble as does the Tv-One but not as bad as the other two. The 103 might be what the doctor ordered for
Sd DVD's.

The Lumagen VisionHDP, HDQ, and PRO were the best at 24Hz extraction with their ITVC, nothing beats them. The Radiance can't really do 24Hz extraction, it's a shame. One thing you could consider is running the BD>HDP>Radiance, but that seems kind of hokey.

I had it like that for a bit the the audio delay really was noticeable . But it did work nice. that is why I keep my two HDQ's. i just can't let them go.

Craig just noticed that the 103 can accept two HDMI sources!!! So can it take the 1080i@60 from a dish network box and have it output 1080p@24? Have you tried it if it is possible?

That might be one reason to update to the 103 if confirmed. Would love to feed a 1080i signal from the FIOS box to the OPPO and then output 1080P/60 to the G90.

Craig, I just remembered I still owe you a call. PM when you're free.

No idea. I haven't tried the inputs on the 103 at all. I kind of doubt it though as my guess would be that the 24Hz extraction is very tailored to DVD. I could be wrong though.

Well, it can do that I am pretty sure, that is one of the primary reasons for the inputs. I guess the Oppo scaling is supposed to be better than most other options. But deinterlacing isn't that hard so I would think that your receiver could also do a fine job i>p.

I'm feeding the HDMI signal directly to the Moome card in the G90. I have an old school ADA processor which doesn't have HDMI inputs Embarassed To hear the HD audio codecs I'm letting the OPPO do the conversion and output the analogue 5.1 LPCM audio signal.

Man, I want one of these... I used to be hung up on Oppo build quality. Hated it. Then they fixed that... Now, I'm stuck on the price.

If they were $350, it would have been nearly an impulse purchase and I would have bought one a long time ago. But, for some reason, $500 just feels like too much. Note, I'm not saying it's overpriced; I know how great they are. There's just something about the $500 mark that makes me stop and think about whether I want to spend that much money... And I don't. So, I wait.

Anybody that just HAS to have a 103 to get that HDMI I/O feature happen to have a 93 they'd want to sell reasonably? Wink
