|

Hi Folks:
I have a 2004 VDC Marquee that I got brand new about three years ago. I have it running via a HTPC with DVI cable through one of the earlier Moome cards and am using a resolution of 720p via an nVidia video card. Overall, I'm quite happy with the resolution, but was wondering how best to get the most out of the projector. Can/should I try and push things to 1080p? If so, is there another thread or guidance that can get me there?
I did try 1080p before but found everything seemed way too fuzzy and the projector seemed to crap out after a while - maybe because of the high temperatures on the rear board??...
Anyways, hoping for some guidance on taking my projector to the next level. On a related note, does anyone know of any travelling CRT calibration experts who might be able to visit and max out my calibration for a fee? I live in Los Gatos, Northern California. I have the projector set up pretty good, but I know its still short of the mark from what it should be delivering if I had more expertise and calibration kit etc..
Thanks in advance.

It should be able to do 1080p, but it will depend on how sharp of a picture you want. Where did you get the pj?
As for calibration, give Craig Rounds a call. I just saw his well set up G90 and it was awesome.

Hello
I have bad news, and good news. The bad news is the 180DMB22 crts in your 8500 are no longer being made. The good news is that your machine can be upfitted with nine inch tubes when your eights are worn. More phosphor, LC coupling and better lenses will give you the crisp image you want.

Thanks guys, this is definitely enough info to get me started on the path to 1080p. I'll need to wait till I get home to double-check the serial number. I got it on eBay - it was one of about a dozen that were auctioned off based on some cancelled project (involving Boeing, I believe). I believe it may be one of the LB ones, but nut sure. All told though, it's been a beautiful machine to set up - I previously had two 'regular' 8500 from about 1996 and this one is clearly super sharp compared to those ones.

You don't need to use powerstrip with a nvidia card. Resolution can be set via the driver.

I confirmed it is a Long Bow model. Not sure what the difference is or how it might alter my calibration approach. I already have it set up pretty well already I think, although there is room for further optimization.
