Smaller overlaps may be harder to hide. Use the percentage that allows the most phosphor usage. The processors are programmable for overlap, usually 0 to 25%

Not true. I set up my 8500 stack in less than an hour. Blend 2 years and counting.

Actually, this is only partially true. Nash would tear the whole thing down just to add a new capacitor if he thought it would make an improvement. When he watches a movie, he only does it to look for faults so that he can fix them. It is a disease and I know all about it because I also have it. "Tweekeritis"
After it is set up, about the only disadvantage of a blend is that it takes about 20 minutes to warm up so that the blend zone comes into convergence. Probably caused more by the tubes warming up and changing shape than the electronics if I had to guess.
But the reward is an awesome picture.

Left and right have to be converged in realtiy of course

ElTopo's work has got me thinking more about my planned blend and now I am very worried. In particular, my trusty ole' ECP loses convergence more often than not when turned off. While I have the machine pretty well aligned mechanically and adjusted via trimpots, as often as not I have to shift blue over a smidge and tweak red a little bit on the sides when I start-up the PJ (and even if warmed-up). That said, thinking about the need to adjust the two PJs to one-another got me to wondering something:
Does:
A) my green tube always shoot on the same part of the tube face and red and blue simply wander off of that location OR
B) does my green tube always move a little on the tube face AND blue and red track relative to that location (but only off a little on my machine)?
I could live with case A) as my convergence times would simply double from 30sec to about 1min. That is, the two greens would "hold" alignment to one-another and I'd just touch-up blue and red for each of the two machines. However, case B) would be virtually impossible to deal with as I'd need some mechanical way to re-align machine's green to the other. Anyone know how this goes on an ECP or do I need to breakout the manual and see if I can figure this out. Not sure how much the Marquees are like the ECPs in this respect...

That's the nature of ECP's - that's the way they were brand new right out the box.

Wow Mike - that is amazing to learn and crazy some many were sold in spite of this. I guess installers had to get the mechanical setup and trimpots set to perfection in order to make digital convergence adjustments largely unnecessary? Or maybe that is why there are so many of the ACON boards/cameras around? ¯\ (°_°) /¯
That said, anyone know if the green crosshatch moves around as I described in case B)? If no one can weigh in, I 'suppose I have some data to gather over the next few days/weeks.

Set up one mark the green center grid after a 30 minute warm up over blue painters tape with a cross right over the
grid line. shut down the pj. leave it off for a few hours. turn it on for 30 minutes and see if it moved.
I wonder if some of the maintenance we do on the Marquee would help the ECP , I remember Ken Hottie Recaped his ECP and said it really stabilized it .
