|
|
Hi again!
While working on my Marquee, I noticed that my blue tube has VERY bad flaring at the sides of the
picture...seems like way beyond what lensflapping can correct(and that shouldn't fix both sides I take it)
What could cause this? No use trying to adjust the lenses. Doesn't get sharp at all.
Thanks!

Scheimpflug (or lack of Schempflug correction to be more accurate) can absolutely cause poor focus on both sides; that is, in fact exactly what it is to correct for.
When a tube/lens isn't parallel to the screen, the projected plane of focus will also not be parallel to the screen. The net effect is that if the center is in focus, the two opposing edges will be nearly equally out of focus. To be more specific, the image will be in focus in front of the screen on one side, and behind the screen surface on the other side. Scheimpflug (flapping) rotates the plane of focus back into parallel with the screen.
Does the softness get progressively worse from screen center to edge? That's probably optical.

First off, look into the lens. If the tube face is out of focus, you've got electronic issues. THis could be:
Bad focus board
Bad astig output board
Bad CLM daughter board
bad CLM main board
If the tube face is in focus, then this is purely a mechanical/optical issue.
Narrow it down to which one it is first, and we can be of more assistance.

You may also just need to improve your astig and focus in the SM.

Hi!
The flaring is on the tube face itself....what would be the next course of action?
