Guys

The first tube went back and it is being replaced! I heated the pins on another tube with a small torch, a few seconds of heat and the glass cracked neatly so, here we go again!

More as time permits........

Tim,
Looks great, I would be adding metal pieces all around to get more arcs from the other pins,

Stay safe.

Try connecting some steel wool or something with lots of points on it to the pin!

Actually steel wool might be a bad idea. It might catch fire. Very Happy

Oh, steel wool can be LOTS of fun. My teenager and his buddy did a few photographic experiments with steel wool:

You could build a plasma globe supply (miniature tesla coil) out of a flyback, a resistor and a tip 122 transistor and have at it all you want. Super simple circuit runs on 12 VDC.

Woah! That's cool. I gather he's standing in a shallow lake (or on a boat), being photographed from the lake shore? Details of the pyrotechnics please Smile

Yeah, that's really cool.

With digital cameras getting so much better at low-light in the last few years, and with no cost/risk and instant feedback from trying things, I've seen some people doing really cool things with shutters open the last few years. Everything from sparklers, fire, flashlights, flashes... Oh, man - the cool stuff people are doing with strobes... I could spend days looking at Strobist.

Guys

Muahahahahaha! The fun continues; the arc changes by moving the neckboard cage around:

This is playing havoc with the autofocus..........

Tie a light steel cable to the handle of a kitchen whisk. Stuff the whisk with steel wool. Wear a heavy hoodie or something to protect your hair & clothes. Light the steel wool, and whirl it around by the cable. Shazam! Magic.

They were having fun with sparklers & stuff too:
