I love the smell of ozone in the morning! Nice snapping sound too.

Wow!! Neato shots Tim. You caught them perfectly!! I love the way electricity looks when its sparking all over  you have mini lightning bolts there!!

Yup
I went to shutter priority on my CD500, eight seconds works good, the arcs are about four seconds apart. I'll put up some more pictures soon.

Dayum. Those are about 2" arcs?
What do you mean the tube "went to air" ? I assume you didn't use a new 9 incher just to give us a light show!!

If the vacuum was good the tube would have worked; it appears to have lost the vacuum.

Huh, OK. So we're looking at the neck end (obviously) and it looks like you don't have the tube plugged in. Remind me, the HV goes in along the bell of the tube, right? (It's been years since I tore my Marquee apart! ) So even with the neck not connected, the HV is traveling through the tube to the neck and arcing to ground? And presumably that happens easier in air than in a vacuum? I wouldn't think the current could travel through air all the way from the bell to the neck, unless maybe it was conducting along the inside of the tube, but if it did that wouldn't it do it in vacuum too?
Did you have the neckboard plugged in when you first fired this puppy up? Did the neckboard get fried?

Guys
Tubes have a conductive coating inside. so it brings 35kv all the way to the front of the gun. Amazingly, the neckboard still works. I used a junk 8500 to get the pix, I did not want to fry my customer's 9500 Ultra just for fun.

No it just starts arcing when the high voltage comes up, it also arcs with the neckboard on.

ohhhhh, so the other tubes are connected and the HV is on the tube but the VNB is just connected to the umbilical cord?
Just trying to figure out how you get the HV to go to the tube with no VNB connected.
