|
|
I fleabay'd a CMPLE Premium IR repeater system kit and it sucks. DOA out of the box and the seller wants me to ship it back so that they can send it to the manufacturer for testing before refund or replacement. That's not going to happen as I don't have a month to dick around waiting for it. So now I'm looking at Xantech and wondering how good they are. Any other suggestions.

If you have to do IR repeat/distribution, just get the Xantech stuff and be done with it.
Personally, I'm so glad to have moved beyond IR to Wi-Fi. The only IR in my systems is the link to the devices, and even some of those are being eliminated whenever possible. I actually have fewer IR devices in my system now than I do RS-232/IP. If I get an Oppo, I'll get rid of one more piece of IR gear in daily use.

This is not for me. It's for my neighbor. I have a full blown Crestron system. He had the wall open for workers to install a gas log in his fireplace and asked me advice to prep the area above the fireplace for a flatcreen. One thing led to another and I ended up doing the installation (freebee). The source equipment is in a closet in the basement. I hard-piped 1-1/4 PVC conduit trom the TV to the closet and pulled two 50 foot HDMI cables and one 1/8th stereo extension cable for the IR extender. This has been a up-hill battle since the start. First they shipped the original repeater to the wrong address so it was late getting here. Then the new Fios HD receiver was DOA outta da box. Had to order a replacement so I had no idea the repeater was DOA until I sent them shopping for a BD player for something to watch while waiting for the Fios box to show up. So here I am, three weeks later still working on the "freebee" and I ain't done yet.

I've use the one made by buffalo that I got from smarthome -- it works fine. The only problem I have is with the CFLs making the HTPC do random stuff sometimes and jamming the other devices' remotes. That is, other devices sometimes wouldn't respond until the second I turned off the CFLs, even though those devices wouldn't do random stuff. I posted on this and tried some suggestions for various filters, etc. In the end, I just changed the bulbs from annoying CFL to incandescent and LED.
