I had never seen Mulholland Drive before watching it yesterday. I heard about it over the years, had heard terrific things of the original HD DVD release, but I was unwilling to pay what is not extortionary prices for it. There was no Region A BD release, and like Sleeping Beauty bought it on a Region B effort through Amazon UK. Unlike Sleeping Beauty, though, this disk is locked to Region B. As such, I played it on my $58 Insignia NS-BRDVD4 player with rolled back firmware.
This movie was one hell of a lot of entertainment, but that can be said about a lot of David Lynch films. I often wondered what was so spectacular about Naomi Watts, other than playing the lead female in King Kong, but I can see from this movie she did a terrific job--I'm now a big fan. I thought she was from Australia, but she was actually born in the UK.
The BD was terrific and I am glad I bought it without having never seen the movie before. The PQ was excellent, the sound rather dynamic (especially the occasional LFE treats), and the story very engrossing. If you have not seen this, are not willing to pay the extortion prices for it on HD DVD, then do yourself a favor and save big by buying it on Amazon UK. I greatly enjoyed watching this movie and can see myself watching it again real soon.
And for the guys there is enough titty action to make you wonder if this was rated NC17 or just R. The movie is over two hours, but you would never guess it. Its a wild ride. I give it
