I can grab one of these for $25.
Its populated with 5 video card modules, 3 rgb input modules and 1 rgb output card.
Is it worth having?

Neat...I figured those were just some sort of crappy accessory. I noticed the control cable looked like a VGA cable and NOT a standard RS232 serial port. What gives with the special/custom cable?
Also, when it switches inputs, does it also send commands to auto-switch memory settings, etc. OR do NEC PJ's have some sort of internal auto-source recognition (ASR) like the Ehomes?

The control cable plugs into the projector to make it an integrated setup. But it can also run totally stand alone. These were expensive and very capable switchers. You can even plug a second output card into it for display on a second projector, etc.
I forget if it could take up to 4 or not.
