I'd still inspect it for a bug or fried part...in my experience, things that go away by themselves usually come back by themselves.

Oh I dunno, I blew a capacitor on my 8 track and the sound improved

About six months ago I heard a loud SNAP/POP while watching OTA HDTV on my 1272Q. The projector continued to function normally so I didn't think much of it. It also came from the front of the unit where the HV transformers are. Since I have not been inside the unit since it was ceiling mounted (6+ years) I am guessing this was dust build up as well.
Now might be a good time for all us CRT-philes to open the cases and do a good dust out with a can of compressed air.

good suggestion -- maybe first get one of those little shop vacs with the detailing attachment that has a little brush on the end of it. Mine is maybe 3/8"dia and 6 inches long and is great for cleaning around boards and sticking in tight nooks and crannies. (snicker if you wish)

Was it very humid when you heard the snap? Mine did that once on a very humid day.

Now that is funny...
Wait... an 8 Track player? Okay, I won't hold that against you. I love how LPs sound... And I'm a child of the digital age who prefers analog.
