My contrarian tastes are expressed more in what I didn't like. LOTR, HP, Batman and Spiderman 3, the entire last season of Battlestar Galactica, etc.
Its been a long time since I actually watched Resurrection, so I'd have to rewatch it to be more precise in why I liked it, but from what I do recall, it was the focus more on the development of the characters, for instance Ripley being a *different* kind of Ripley and the aliens being given at least a tiny bit of character. I don't care much, more and more, for stories that rely on generic "bad" monsters that have no real motivation for being bad. A being capable of achieving high technological advancement seems unlikely to be a candidate for being slavishly devoted to "feeding" on other beings. Its so very one dimensional to have the opposition in a film something that is so shallow.
Another thought along those lines is, why are "alien" beings so often portrayed with a uniform appearance which is either "naked" or military dress ? A very tiny portion of humanity dresses in uniform, and none of us look exactly the same, only the grossest form of similarity exists, yet virtually all movie aliens could be clones of one another with identical responses and very base motivations attributed to them. I find that increasingly dissatisfying.

Jones is a bit of a flake. The archetypal plot lines found in the majority of conflict based films are timeless and have been inspired or outright copied from historical stories going back a long way; long before we had established government. This crap is irritating because it does nothing to help a libertarian cause.
It's ironic that Batman was spawned during the great depression; a time when big government was taking charge. The theme of the masked vigilante taking matters into his own hands because government/law enforcement can get the job done certainly doesn't go along with a leftist agenda...

I just saw it in digital IMAX (my first experience with the digital version of that format). The movie was great, and my wife loved it too. It kept me glued right up until the end. As far as 2K digital IMAX...I'll stick with 70mm until 4K IMAX is available. IMAX at 2K is great until you see SDE and pixel structure, and I saw it many times without trying. The MTF and sharpness of the digital presentation was great, but I think IMAX jumped the gun from a pq standpoint with 2K.

The girlfriend and I saw this with my roommate. She's a huge movie nerd (one of many reasons I'm in wuv with her) and a Nolan fan. I would say I'm also a pretty big fan of Nolan from movies like Following, Inception, and Batman Begins.
Anyway, she loved it and I really enjoyed it ... BUT I understand a lot of the complaints I keep hearing. It was far from my favorite Nolan and although I enjoyed it, it didn't keep me in that sweet spot of movie bliss for the entire time. There were also several times where I had to stifle laughter at dialog which wasn't meant to be funny. There where also a lot of things in the plot that didn't resonate with me and left me saying 'What!? Why!?'
That all being said, the acting is pretty solid. Hardy proved he can act even with a grill on his face and I enjoyed Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt a lot (per usual).
Good visuals except that the theater I was in was projecting an image larger than the screen they had. As Gob would say, COME ON!
