I have a Runco DTV-947 and the VD 4402 controller that it came with failed a couple of times and I restarted it by removing and replacing the fuse. Today that didn't work, and I had to replace the fuse but it still will not wake up! It has power at the fuse and the back of the switch and past the transformer - 15 volts. I have been looking for a schematic with no luck! Any ideas? The pic is great when it is operating! Is this a typical problem or is this unusual? I am running two systems with a Lexicon Mc-12HDBEQ. A component system which includes an RT-10 Lexicon DVD player, a Sony Laser Disc Player and a Sony SLV-R5 Super VHS VCR via the component input and then an HDMI system via the Pass through input on the VHD 4402 with a Blu-ray, Sony Mega DVD storage, Bell Sat TV and a computer, all at 1080i resolution.

These scalers are failing like crazy at this point, I threw out the last 3 I had here as they had too many issues. Runco release schematics? Are you kidding?
You won't find the schematics I'm afraid, Runco released nothing.
Scrap it, go on eBay and find a Lumagen HDP/HDQ or a DVDO VP30 or VP50 for cheap, which will do a much better job than the VFD4402 ever did when it was new. That's your best solution at this point.

So if I do that - what is a fair price for those units? What is "Cheap" in your opinion. During this process, I also bought an HDCP Stripper from Hi-Rez Services. would I still need that in the new version of this system? Do these units accept S-Video, component, and HDMI and then deliver it directly to the projector via RGBHV outputs? How will the the Lexicon MC-12HDBEQ fit into all of this? All this equipment was bought brand new ten years ago and I am just now finally trying to get it together. I had a huge disaster in my personal life that caused this delay and as a result, I am also "out of the loop" on what is going on now. I do have a Blu-ray player, that is causing havoc with the system and this why I bought the Stripper. It only works at 95% and so still causes problems. Some parts of the system work extremely well - like the 4 Bryston 6BSST amplifiers and the Subwoofers I designed and constructed for the system. I have two 15" for the Left and right sub and then a double 18" for the LFE output. They are all passive and are powered by the Brystons. They sound awesome. Tight and punchy and they go down really low with no distortion. I built them before the disaster but renovated them last summer with 15" JBL 2225H professional Series and and then 18" DAS also professional series drivers. It was definitely worth the extra time and effort. the sound is solid it is just this HDMI stuff that is driving me nuts and now the processor fails. I'm just trying to get it up and running as much as possible with what I have here, but it is not looking good. Thanks for your help so far.

Check the for sale section here and the completed eBay listings. I'd say $150-350 or so for one of those units.
Here's the long and short of it: THe DTV 947 will not do 1080p, but it will give a nice 1080i picture, or 720p if you wish.
Everything non HD related is obsolete at this point, that's the big change that's happened in the last 5-6 years or so. Most people choose to upgrade to HD, and leave video and Svideo behind. The picture quality is far superior with HDMI as you probably already know.
So, unless you have a large video or laserdisc collection, I'd forget about those connections. That means you are only dealing with HDMI. I'd get an external Moome box, from www.moomecard.com. I have personally used about a dozen of those with no HDCP issues. No offense to Hi Rez, but I don't know what they are selling, and I've only had experience with the Moome card and the HDFury. The Moome card seems a bit more solid, and the RGB signal processing is better, no question about it.
I'm assuming that you have an RGBHV run to the projector. Junk the Runco scaler, get a VGA to 5 BNC adapter to connect the output of the Moome to the existing RGBHV cables, and you're good to go.
Sounds like you're far more technically inclined than I am regarding making speakers, and I agree, HDMI is super frustrating, since you have no idea where the problem lies when something is flaky. THe trick is to keep the signal connection as simple as possible, and the HDMI cables as short as possible.
If you are using analog video or Svideo inputs, the solution becomes a bit more complex, but let me know.
Oh, if you are only using HDMI, forget about the scaler for now, get the Moome card and enjoy.

Thanks so much for your advice! I might have found a Lumagen Vison HDQ. It also might be sold because the ad is old and no activity since 1st June, but I sent an email anyway. I did the research and that processor sounds really good and within that price range you mentioned! I will do my research on that Moome Box. I know you mentioned it before, but couldn't find it. Now I have the proper address, I will check it out.
Yes, I have been building speaker cabinets since I was 15 or so. I was in a Rock band and we didn't have the money to go and buy nice new amps and PA Systems so my Father directed me to the National Research Council library here in Ottawa. I live in a western suburb of that City. As you might know they have a Anechoic Chambre and have a ton of research in that area. We built base reflex speaker cabinets and amplifiers for our electric Bass Guitar. We had to - it was wrecking our guitar amps!! Ha! Ha! We even built "Tower" speaker boxes for our PA for the vocals. That's how it all started.
I will let you know how things progress!

BTW, IF you're only using HDMI sources, forget the scaler for now, and use the money to buy the Moome card. THe scaler can come later, if at all.
