The 16:9 tubes was only for the direct view sets the projection sets still had the 4:3 tubes like crt projectors just a smaller raster use on the tubes

The convergence board tech would most likely be the only improvement that and the digital tuners

I didn't see how the tech dwindle considering its been around for a long time but companies was wanting a cheaper to make display tech hence the flat panel tvs(which has terrible picture quality compared to crt)
Digital displays are ok to a point but with no true black it bugs me(my dlp projector is like that)
That resion I got my Ecp 4101 from curt(plus I got tired of replacing bulbs every 2-3k hours)

If there would have been a market, then someone would have made 16x9 tubes. Unfortunately there was never a market.

Wow, if you got tired of replacing bulbs, then how many hours did(do) you put on a pj in a year?

I was a heavy gamer with the projector(plus its ceiling mounted) the cealing mounted position made it a pain to replace the bulb in the unit(still have it but don't need it now)
But I haven't played my video games that much lately which is why I got a crt for the better picture quality(the tube life is a plus also) but I didn't cealing mount the crt beast to make servicing easier
