I'm @ 106 dia (92" w) at ~123 inch throw rasters maxed.

Simple math puts 110 @ roughly 128 inch throw.

108: throw is ~81inch wide 93" dia. Its an approximation the math is not linear.

Yes, this was established in the first post. IIRC, mine was almost exactly at that throw.

As far as I know, it's precisely linear (assuming the image size on the tube face is constant.)

Yes it is linear. Why would it not be?

Typical throw for a non LC set is 1.4 X the width of the screen, 1.35 for an LC set. Those are 'rough' numbers...

There, I fixed that for you, Mac. Laughing

Ohhhh.... I'm just kiddin'! The only reason I'm pretty good in the grammar department is because my mom beat it into me.

I know what you mean about "those" people, Mac... I'm not much of a drinker, and I've never been a smoker (save for a few stupid weekends with friends in college), and I agree... The "formerly obsessed now obsessed with staying formerly" people drive me crazy. You shouldn't eat this, you shouldn't drink that, you shouldn't, you shouldn't, you shouldn't... No! How about, "*I* don't have a problem with doing something in moderation, so how about you shut it and worry about your own issues!"

I know you guys are only kidding. I know I'm no where near a correct grammar user. In high school I was busy learning a profession and had little time for classes that I felt had little benefit. By the time I graduated high school I was a professional in my field and that's what I felt was important. I may not use proper words or phrases but I'm sure people understand me when I speak. Very Happy

Here's how you explain it to him, Jeff:

The lenses are a FIXED focal length, which means the lenses make one specific screen size at any one throw distance. If the projector moves back, the image gets larger. If the projector moves forward, the image gets smaller. Period.

The "SIZE" adjustments are for very small (i.e. a couple of inches) adjustments to the size of the picture. Besides, his problem isn't needing the picture smaller (which he could do, while tolerating the decreased resolution, decreased brightness, and increased tube wear). In his case though, he won't be able to make the picture larger. It will be smaller than he wants. Period.

Setting it up on the floor so he can see what you're talking about is a good idea.

But why can't I just change the size by pressing a button. Just like my digital. Twisted Evil

To be perfectly linear the focal point (not plain) of the light path would need at the outer surface of the last lens element.
I didn't think it was because a scratch off to the side of the lens would still be visible in the projected image.
I would agree for this situation it can be treated linear.

The focal point is typically in front or behind a lens.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/Lens1.svg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ab/Lens1b.svg

If the focal point is in front of the lens the linear relationship exists from the focal point to the screen not the lens.

If it is behind the lens I don't thick the relationship is linear anymore, but I'm sure there is a formula to figure it out.
