No color wheel doesn't necessarily mean no rainbows - however it does mean your chances of seeing them will be lower. My Acer K330 LED PJ is by far the best I've ever seen in terms of not producing rainbows, due to the fact that it can switch the LEDs so much faster than a color wheel can be driven. However, on rare occasions, I do get a flash of rainbows. By rare I'd say once every week or two, and I use this thing daily for several hours. Of course everyone's sensitivity to rainbows is different, so YMMV.
After poking around and reading some more about the RZ470, it looks like it has some potential to be a nice machine. Although I'm 99% sure that the 20K:1 CR is BS, I'll be interested to see where the 3K lumens figure comes from. Both models use 0.65" DLP chips, which aren't quite as sharp as the 1.0" chips, but the benefit is you get a wider zoom and lens shift range. Plus the smaller chips are cheaper. I'll be interested to see where they're priced - knowing Panny, it will probably be quite reasonable.

Guys, I am going to demo the W7000 today from a local AVS member. I'll report back my findings

Didn't this ship a year ago? Are you looking at buying used?

Nah, may buy refurb though. Want something for every day to save the hours on the stack. I'm willing to bet after everything I have read, that this projector has really good 3D performance. We'll see

Alright I finally got to see the W7000 in action today and what can I say?
Well, it was being fired on to a 9ft wide Da-Lite High Power 16:9 pull down and it was BRIGHT. LOTS OF LIGHT! I'm hoping to audition it on my screen soon to see how much of a drop off there is vs unity gain. The blacks werent the best, but they werent that bad either. I can easily live with it.
The 3D was outstanding. NO GHOSTING. I think I actually am going to buy it. Great value for the cost.
Yes, I did see RAINBOWS. It was rare though, not enough to distract.

Nah, this is really gonna help save the stack. As much as I watch it, the tubes are gonna burn up real quick if I dont use a go between. I was impressed with that Da-Lite High Power fabric. Everthing was nice and uniform. That setup had to be throwing at the very least 30FL. It was BRIGHT.
One thing I did find distracting was the motion at 24P. I did not like it very much, I will probably send the thing 1080P/60, which is fine because I'll be watching tv and gaming with it mostly.
For a DLP it has pretty good blacks.

So I now have that little digital bastard in the theater and I have to admit. I like it. For the price, it is a steal. The 3D is kick ass and this PJ has some horsepower for larger screens like mine, FINALLY, a digital that will light up my screen that doesn't cost a sh*t load of money.
It's not perfect, the blacks suck (although not bad for DLP), but so far, I really like it a lot.

Cliff,
I was looking at the specifications and they say it has a throw of 1.6. But I always thought G90's were pretty close to my Barco which is only around 1.0. How did you get around that problem? Did you cut a hole in the back of the theater or do you just settle for a much smaller picture?
How close do you sit without seeing any screendoor or other artifacts? You say the blacks suck but yet the specs I read on their site say they have good contrast. What I think is funny is that if you just go by the specs you would think that this would have better contrast and brightness than a 3 chipper like the sim2 lumis but based on what you say I'm not so sure.
I've had a good run with my bg1209 but it keeps going through quads now to the point I feel the need to find something like you just bought. Sooner or later the barco's going to go down again and I'm not going to find a quad for it next time. But I'm just not sure what to get because I like to sit very close and I've never seen any of these digitals in person yet.

One more question Cliff. Why did you opt for this dlp instead of one of the newer JVC dila? Was it for the brightness?

RV, I'm not Cliffy, but I can guess...
The W7000 looks like it has H and V lens shift and a 1.0-1.5x zoom lens, so very flexible for a DLP (and infinitely more flexible than CRT, obviously). I'm guessing it was the placement flexibility and brightness that drew Cliffy in the first place. Those and a CMS aren't at all common in one package in a DLP projector at the W7000's price point. In fact, that stuff is nearly impossible to find in a DLP at all, unless you're looking at the big buck machines like a Sim2.
I'd guess brightness and 3D performance were why Cliff picked the BenQ over a JVC. He's got the stack for über PQ, and the BenQ for gaming and a nice, bright 3D picture.

They never really did bother me that much although it was noticable from time to time.
While the JVC is a nice machine, it sucks for motion, and the 3D performance is subpar from what I have seen and read. |

LOL it's funny you ask about cutting a hole in the back of the theater cause I actually thought of doing that very thing LOL
But, no, I just placed the PJ on the back wall. It does not fill the screen, but it is pretty close. I lost a couple inches on each side and even less on top/bottom, but it is so close I have just decided to live with it. When using dynamic black (auto iris) the blacks are pretty good for DLP.
From my normal seating distance (10ft from 10ft wide screen) I see no screen door 98% of the time which is plenty good for me. The main reason for getting the BenQ was LIGHT OUTPUT. Much brighter than the JVC's, not to mention, brighter than the stack! Also the 3D is kick ass. Not perfect, but kick ass!
