Hi again,

Yes I've removed the swivel plates.

I managed to remove the bellow without damaging it. Also no rtv residue was left on the bellow. I guess I can try next time mounting it without the kit.

I've posted a few pictures so that you can easily see where the leak was.

I have also a close up of the fill holes.

Athanasios there's one picture with the bare bellow in the lens plate and you can see that the rubber is somewhat small compaired to the lensplate. Is this normal or is there something with the bellow? can I re-use it?

I'm going to paint the anodized aluminium but there is still some residu of sillicon on it and therefor the paint will never hold.

What would be the best solution to take that of?

I guess if i take longer (stainless steel) fill screws that stick out a little then there is minimal risk of the glycol touching the fill hole?

What about some kind of plastic screws?

Is ther any special epoxy paint that I should use?

A lot of questions but I want to do it right this time.

Hi Ron, I'm curious how you removed the bellow without damaging it, was there no RTV silicone holding it in place?

Yes there was silicone but it came of very easy and it didn't stick much. I took normal black silicon when I mounted the the nashou bellows one and a half year ago.

I followed exactly nashous procedure that you can find on curts site under "advanced procedures".

Question: Are adhesion promoters used when silicone is applied?

I'm wondering if the silicone is skinning and then not tacking to the rubber gasket well enough, thereby providing leak point. Seems like the silicone to metal adhesion would be fine provided the metal surface has no oils/grease/coupling-fluid residues. Anyway, I poked around really-quickly for a 3M branded version, but couldn't find one. These guys seem like they would make an appropriate product.

BTW, I think I would consider using the sandpaper-on-glass technique one uses to flatten 2-cycle engine heads (or a woodworker's flat diamond stone) and would then use adhesion promoter on that surface as well.

This might help to assure good bond to both surfaces.

Thanks dave. The dye company guy looked at my UV/VIS absorbance curves and asked me to send him samples...should be able to say with pretty good certainty what the dye compounds are. It might be nice once we've figured out all the things that happen and their causes, we can work out more effective preventive measures.

Just finished the firefly series and need to watch serenity movie in coming weeks -- good stuff.

Hi everybody,

Last week I've put my Projector on the ceiling with the LC chambers refilled.

I now have the following situation:
Blue tube:
bellow removed painted the Aluminium with VHT epoxypaint and then reinstalled the bellow without RTV kit and filled with a mixture of 75% propylene glycol and 25% glycerine. stainless steel fill-hole screws installed

green tube:
Old techspray removed cleaned the LC chamber with ammonia and demineralized water and then filled with the same liquid as the blue tube. Stainless steel fill-hole screws installed.

red tube:
not touched. Techspray from 1.5years ago. Aluminium not painted and no stainless steel fill-hole screws.

All tubes are clear now and the image is good. Since I changed from table to ceiling mount I still have to redo a setup.

I'll keep you informed what happens with the glycol.
