Sorry to see you go I had the exact same PJ as you the Epson 8700. I loved it, but yearned for more, so I sold it and bought a marquee. Moreover Epson in my opinion is a great company and their customer service was top notch. Good luck and I am sure you'll enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm not going to deny that I'll miss the Big 9'er, but I am forced to make a few compromises to keep everyone happy.
Compromise is the key word here.

Now seriously, If I had a basement..... I'd never sell it. It would ONLY be for movies, which it works flawlessly for and would of course be a dedicated setup.

But my current needs don't allow that.... soo.....

And much like Curt, I don't have much time. Much less so in the near future, as I'm looking at a full time engineering job in the next few weeks. In the past, I put less than 200 hours on the projector in the six years I owned it. I used it ONLY to pay movies, which all of us had little time to actually sit down for.

You do the math.

Marc

Don't apologize for leaving CRT -- that's life, Marc. What I really hope is that folks who've been regulars here and are a part of this great community will be able to continue to find it useful for other things, their new digitals, etc. I realize other forums are visited (not so much by me)...I just hate to see folks leave here!

I can't speak for anyone else, but assuming I'm not banished Wink, I'm not going anywhere. I've been hanging around this group for years, and I don't have any interest in spending time anywhere else. Yeah, maybe I have to go look something up on AVS, and I've certainly posted there a bit more lately (which is to say, just a bit more than 'none'), but I can't see how I'll be here any less.

I think some of the camaraderie of this site has to do with as much of everything else as it does with CRT projectors. Just like car clubs, it's just the common interest that gets you together; it's the camaraderie and friendships that keep you around.

Even the OT threads... Some people complain about them... Yes, they can be divisive, but I think for those of us who partake in those discussion threads, assuming you don't get your panties in a bunch, there's a depth to our relationships and knowledge of each other that wouldn't necessarily be there if we just chatted about neck boards and bandwidth all the time. Hell, I know more about some other members' politics and religion than I do about certain close friends and family!

Besides the social aspect, I still want to learn more about color calibration, electronics, etc... Of course, I've learned a lot over the years, and I like to share, too.

Sticking around if you'll have me. Wink

SC

Hey, Athanasios - You're 183 posts behind me... Looks like I'll be trading my #4 spot for your #5 spot pretty soon on the top posters list. I can't think of a person I'd rather trade spots with, buddy!

I've switched to digital.......... for my door stop that is. And it works pretty well mind you. Even in a fairly strong breeze it holds that door open. I'm been thinking about trying a digital to hold my one window open that always wants to slam closed. I might have to use the lens adjustment to get the right height though...... I also have one in the trunk of my car that I use as a wheel chock in case I park on a hill. It seems to want to roll on occasion.... if I get a few more I may hang them in the garden so when the wind blows they will bang together and make noise to keep the animals away. I tried burning some in the fire place but there is to much smoke. Good heat though. All in all they work very well in these cases......... Laughing

Matt, I think the key will be if we can avoid bashing. Either analog diehards bashing digital, or digital folks bashing analog. That's not (usually) a lot of fun to read. And it's really not productive. Each platform has it's own strengths and weaknesses, and people will use whichever fits their specific needs best at the moment.

But if we skip the altercations, then those former analog folks who moved to digital, but have years and years of analog experience, may still be here and willing to share that knowledge. That way, we all win.

Hard to believe I'm still #9 on the list, considering how inactive I've been for the last year or two...

I would like to believe that this is more than just a tech chat room. I feel that I know and respect and care about the people who make up this place. Including the (at least one sociopath ).Whoever they may be. I understand fully why some feel the way they do, You all know I have been talked off the ledge.(twice). Sometimes you just wanna watch movies and it not be a part time job. Especially for someone like me who is electronically challenged. Whether or not people here go digital I hope they stick around if for no other reason than to just piss me off. It sounds dumb I know but I enjoy the "atmosphere" here. I have told my wife that if I was to suddenly drop dead she is to post it here. Strange as it seems I feel I want you all to know.

For all that badmouthing, you'd think you'd at least be able to understand the darn things. Did you ever get that CMS thing figured out or does it still elude you? It's okay, most people hate/fear what they can't understand Wink Mr. Green Twisted Evil

Yes I did and what it gave me was another full clip of ammunition to fire in the ass of digitals. But I'm not going to fire it here. I'll save it for a later date. I'm just pokin some fun here and I believe most got it. Laughing
