Hello,

today someone in a german forum (thanks deflection) showed me why I had problems with the acpect ratio when doing 4:3 (1,33) simulation rearprojection. For sure I was using full tubeface, but I was not able to achieve a correct aspect ratio in the sceens of a 4:3 screen.
Deflection has measured the tube face of a o7msp tube, and I also checked one a few minutes ago. It is 1:1,086! So not 4:3 (1,33) as expected. I contiuned to measure other tubes, but I was not able to measure a P19 tube, as long as the C-Element is installed in the CRT. So perhaps someone else can add his tubes too:

07ms: ~ 1:1,30 as expected
07msp: 1:1,086 thats a 4,344:4
HDIH 09mh: ~ 1:1,30 as expected
G70 P16lje: ~ 1:1,13 thats a 4,52:4!

A blend is the logic result....

...I would also like to mention that the tubface of a 07msp is bigger than a G70 P16lje:

07msp: 12,5cm x 11.5cm (4,92"x4,53")
p16lje: 11,3cm x 10cm (4,45"x3,94")

Also I would like to add, that a P16 is only as wide (close) as a 7" 07ms! The p16 is higher, but we do not use this with 4:3, 16:9,....
This, plus that the tube is driven harder, might burn modern tubes that fast in 16:9 and scope.

I've measured a bare P19LCP:

- Outer glass is 18cm (7.09") x 14cm (5.51") which is 22,81cm (8.97") diagonal
- Inner tubeface is 16cm (6.30") x 12cm (4.72")
- Usable phosphor is 15cm (5.91") x 11cm (4.33")

So usable phosphor is around 1:1.36

These are the measurements from a 180DVB22:

- Outer glass not measurable. Tube in housing
- Inner tubeface is 13cm (5.12") x 10,5cm (4.13")
- Usable phosphor is 12cm (4.72") x 9,5cm (3,74")

For this tube usable phosphor is around 1:1.47

I use my XG on 5:4 for all my retro gaming, so that suits me fine the tubes are like that. When i do watch movies, i watch them in whatever the aspect is, and i use my masks to cover the portion of screen not used. Works perfectly fine.

I wouldnt have thought they were as narrow as 07MS tubes, i have 6 of those here and they dont seem to be as wide as the tubes in the XG to me, or even the ones in the plain PG for that matter... I havent measured them though, where as you have. Be interested to see what you get measuring the P16 with no housing on it if you havent done that allready, i know forum member "Aussie Al" has a set of brand new P16s with no housings on them...

I did measure like barclay did (thanks for P19 and 180DVB!) the usable (white) phosphor. That was easy on a AC tubes, and easy when the G70 C-element is removed.

And right, Nec AC P16 seems to be different. I have just measured a NEC PG xtra P16: ~4,92"(12,5cm)x3,93"(10cm), so it is wider than a G70 tube a better aspect for ht.
