seizure inducing?? Maybe if you're watching the windows desktop...but movies look great.
The only time you will see flicker is with a brighter or whiter picture..normal picture levels become very nice.
I think it flickers less than the theater...I could be wrong though. Even still, it's the same scenario....I might notice flicker in the theater for the first minute or so...but, then it just fades away and looks great.

It's also likely that I run a lower contrast setting than most...the higher that setting is, the more you will see flicker.

How do you figure 48hz on a CRT has less flicker than movie theater? Any modern theater projector still screening 35mm films has a 3-blade shutter, resulting in a 3 black intervals per film frame, similar to a 72hz CRT refresh. I don't know about you, but I've never had to "get used to" the theater film flicker, and it's never bothered me. I can not say the same about a 48hz CRT refresh.

CRT's have phosphor decay rather than the shutter.
I think the flicker relates to which CRT projector you have and the person watching. I tried 48hz for several months back when I had an NEC 6PG. I finally went back to 72hz because the flicker was unbearable. There may be certain tubes with a slower phosphor decay that make the "gaps" between redraws less visible. Also some people are much more aware of the flicker than others. Some people couldn't stand crt monitors at anything less than 85hz, whereas many were fine with 60hz.
I saw the new Spiderman in film last week and the flicker was visible and sometimes annoying.
