Case, what's the shortcut key combo for resetting to zero all the settings?
Any hints on the astig setup? I read the advanced procedure that Curt wrote, and it was helpful, but I think I just need to see someone do it.
Also, I'll need to do some Scheimpflug adjustments, any hints on that for my machine? The pj is aimed about halfway between 12 degrees and 0.
Thanks,

See GJaky above for resetting button combo, do it with the cursor on ALIGNMENT and it will zero every single setting within that heading, then do CONVERGENCE and it will zero all them too. Just do those two, then save it as default. Then when you create a new entry, use the defaults, and they will all be ready to go on zero for you. Start with PHASE and get it perfect, although it wont hurt if you adjust the keystone abit first, but there shouldnt be any need. Im not keen on touching anything else before you set phase. ( when you go into PHASE menu, it will usually bring up the CROSS COARSE pattern, that is fine, but when youre done, just check your vertical line is centered with the CROSS HATCH pattern. )
Make sure your cross hair pattern is lined up as good as you can mechanically before you use the bow and the tilt/skew.
Follow the astig guides you find in the tips on this website. They are pretty good tips. Zero the electronic settings before you do anything.
The Scheimpflug settings should be inside the lid, but if not, they will be in a manual somewhere youll be able to get on this site in the tips section.

I can easily see how that could be quite painful yes!!

Then why are you telling people what they CANT do with their NECs? Its not good. People are going to start to think their NEC projector is no better than a Marquee!! | you own an XG75 and a PG and you think you know everything about CRT's. What a f*cking joke. there are dozens of posts from people who have run the top of the line NEC, the XG135LC, at 1080P and have image problems like image fold-over, a well known issue with NEC';s at higher resolutions. But hey, you know better, your NEC's can do everything under the sun
. |
This is a fantastic comeback from a guy that said CANT CANT CANT in this same thread and was caught out WRONG by me 3 times... Truly fantastic effort my friend
Not only can you not take a joke as you make quite clear by the section you chose to quote, you seem to think you can come here and say "your projector CANT do that" when you dont even know yourself. You were wrong and you didnt like being told so. Be a man and WEAR IT.
Dozens of posts stating this doesnt mean it CANT be done, but ofcourse you repeating it would have to mean its gospel right? Again, what would you know? You have first hand experience with an XG? Cause i do. Not much, but if youve got none at all and no real idea, who are you to question what i can confirm? I have 1920x1080p @60Hz set up on mine here with no fold and no missing image, but oh, DraganM says it cant be done... Oh my... You must be right and i must be wrong... Go back and read what i said and what they said about 1080p and TRY to see if you can comprehend it. I called you on it cause what you said is these projectors CANT do 1080p, which is not only wrong, its the dumbest thing i ever heard.
Where did i say i know everything about CRTs?? Cause i called you out as wrong 3 times in 1 thread?? I dont know about Marquees ( apart from the fact ive read they seem to need a ton of mods done to make them perform as good as other brands did from new ), but you dont see me in Marquee threads telling then what they CANT do with their projectors when i have no idea what they can and cant do. Yet this isnt the first time ive seen you in NEC threads giving misleading info. At no point did i say i know everything about CRTs, and i will certainly never claim that.
Seems strangely ironic that the thread starter did what i suggested and it worked as i said it would... But what would i know eh?? Musta got lucky!! Couldnt have possibly been cause i knew what i was talking about!!

Hey, PHASE isn't for centering only the test patterns on the signal? The POSITION moves the image inside the raster. To be honest I never paid much attention to PHASE, but used POSITION heavily instead.

No mate PHASE moves the test patterns and is probably one of the more important parts of the convergence system, if you set it perfectly, then you get a totally different source ( different resolution and all that ) and make a new entry for that source, if you first load the defaults where you have your perfect phase and perfect convergence, then you adjust the phase on ly new entry to be perfect, you will almost have no adjustments to make to the convergence, unless you have to do any significant changes to the amplitude etc.... On some it gives you the option when you copy data from another entry whether you want to copy "all data" or "all except PHASE and POSITION"
Phase isnt used for moving the image, that isnt what it does.
Do some experimenting with it GJaky, youll see what im talking about, Macgyver would be able to explain it better, but it is very important i reckon. If you dont set it right, in some cases youll have a hard time getting things perfect.

you two should get together and invite some Pink Elephants

Dragan, CMJohnson swear a Marquee 8000 can do 1080p (based on his experiments), Ecrabb can do 1080p on his G70 (which uses the SAME tube set as NEC XG) so why the hell couldn't do a NEC 1080p? My personal experience is that a NEC PG xtra did BETTER 1080p than a marquee 9000. Anyway 1080p resolving capability always depends on personal taste, not to mention that you earlier argued about that 100% or 99% fits in the raster -but who cares? Case gave a tip to the thread starter and it worked, so what's the problem then?

They just can't do it properly. CJ's 8000 was not stock as I recall, but otherwise the old 8000/9000 were not very capable machines. They were a half-way step between ES focus and the later model sets we all know. Anyway, the OP is using a Runco 933, an early 6PGX with 50Khz scan rate. nowhere near 1080P. Even the later model 6PGX has 65Khz, 1080P is 67Khz horizontal sweep so your pushing the machine to it's limit according to the specs on this forum.
So when Even Curt talks about folding issues on some NEC's @1080P, I have to give credit to his argument.
| gjaky wrote: | | Case gave a tip to the thread starter and it worked, so what's the problem then? | not so much what you say but how you say is the usually the biggest problem. It's fine to disagree but shouting YOUR WRONG usually turns into an argument, go figure?
I'm glad the OP's issues were resolved. Sounds like he just needs some help with electronic focus, the hardest part on any CRT.

I have 6PG xtra and it scans to 69kHz and not 65kHz (like mentioned on this site) for confirmation you can read the NEC PG xtra user manual (downloadable from here too) it also shows 69kHz, my pj syncs to 1080p, I can't say anything about the Runco.

Not only were you wrong, you kept on insinuating i was wrong by repeating incorrect requirements, til it was proven otherwise. Then following that, you failed to admit that you had given a bum steer. Now if you had not have continued with your incorrect info, which you did, i wouldnt have said YOU'RE WRONG. If you gave the correct info in the first place ( which i dont believe you have the knowledge or experience in this situation to give ) i probably wouldnt have even posted in this thread.

Quote us where we dispute this? You wont be able to, cause we didnt. None of us did. I told you a few posts ago to go back and read what i said, and see if you could comprehend it, which either you didnt bother trying, or you simply cant comprehend plain english.
