I always wonder whether these people are operating under the premise that there's a sucker born every minute or if they are completely clueless. I mean there is another VPF-40 for like $500 (still overpriced) so you'd think that it might dawn on them that the original list price from 15 years ago is not the current market rate.

I bet it's wishful thinking and willful ignorance more than anything else. They bought a house with it, or somehow ended up with it, and before they've even researched real value, they've googled it found MSRP and have already thought of sixteen ways they're going to spend the money. Yay! I can get that little convertible BMW I wanted, now!!!

... and just to be clear and correct the ebay ad, the projector was not designed by Pininfarina. It was designed by Electrohome. The case was designed by Pininfarina for Vidikron who takes the chassis from Electrohome.

I love the way it's just laying there on its side too. Ads to the flavor I guess.

I feel like making a bid and then retracting it the last day of the auction Mr. Green but I wouldn't do that really...

Interestingly (ok, maybe not really), I recently discovered that the Pininfarina cases were designed for machines Vidikron actually designed and built. The VPF40-SE was an analog convergence chassis with all electron parts made by Vidikron themselves (or the boards say so), TAC-4s, and panisonic tubes. It just happens that those cases fit perfectly over the ECP chassis IF one cuts a square hole in the bottom.

That is a chuckle...maybe had it been NIB they could've asked $20K as a true collectible! Very Happy

It is a steal at this price!!! There are only 3 in the world and they are worth at least $250.000!!!!
And it also works tilted sideways!!!
