Hi
I recently got a hold of a Prodas 919 projector which essentially is a Barco 909. I have some experience with projectors but I've never owned one myself. I know that this is absolutely not a projector for beginners but I'm hoping you guys are willing to give me some help anyway. This is after all one of the best projectors ever made, and I got an offer that I simply couldn't resist.
The reason I got it is because it has some sort of start up error. When I turn it on all the tubes start glowing, but within a few seconds they all turn black. There seems to be some sort of message displayed on the green tube, but I have not managed to read it so far. I hope some of you know what this might be, or at least lets me know were to start looking.
If I get this thing up and running I'll either use it in my own home theatre or sell it.

Thanks guys!
If you by EHT board mean the LED on the back of the case with on/standby, then it keeps glowing green even when the lights go out.
I finally managed to read the error message from the green tube though. It says "Warning: source not available" It only stays on for about 3 seconds before they all go dark.
I guess I'll be playing around with my source then...

Well I just realized this thing doesn't have a VGA connector. That means I'll have to get some new cables first.
Up until now I had only been playing around with it for a few hours and I hadn't connected anything to it yet. That might have been a stupid move from my part but I though I'd at least be able to enter some sort of settings menu to confirm weather or not it was working. If there is, please let me know how to get there.
And I'll try to get a VGA to RGB cable first thing tomorrow morning.

Well I'm going to ignore jantje112's post and continue with my thread here.
I have further realized that you cannot connect a single modern device to this thing. It required BNC or D9 connectors which are extremely hard to find!
It also has some S-video connections, but these are strangely not listed as input sources in the manual I found online. But I guess my best bet is to get a scart to s-video adapter and try to hook it up to my DVD player. It's either that or ordering BNC cables online.
Please let me know weather or not this will work.

napalm where are you located?
That 9 pin your referencing is most likely the RS232 communication port not the VGA input. A 15 pin to 5 BNC cable is what you would need to use a computer on the Barco.
One of these is what you need, or something similar, to use your DVD player.

Using S-video on a 909 is a woefully under use of such a fine machine.
Or just use a computer to get a signal to it for starters.

I know the s-video is horrible compared to the BNC cables, but all I need right now is a proof that this thing is even working.
I will get some proper cables later if I decide to keep it.
And I live in Norway by the way.

No, it will onlylock to a 32Khz signal, so you'll need to connect it to a computer. Still, you should get all internal menus without a signal. It might take a minute for them to come up, as the set will first search for a signal, but once that's done, you should be able to hit the 'adj' button and get into the menus.

Alright. I have now managed to enter the menus.
The main problem now is that the picture is upside down. I have looked through the manual, but I can't find how to flip it over.
Any suggestions here would be appreciated.
I'm also looking forward to seeing how long the tubes have been running once I get it running properly!

Yes it's a Seos Prodas 919
I've done some more work on it now. I'm sorry this takes such a long time but I've got a lot of stuff going on right now and I just can't spend that much time on my projector.
I did manage to flip the picture the right way though. I also managed to check out some of the settings.
It seems the blue and green tube are only at 1400 hours! very nice. The red tube however is at 6700.
I also went into the diagnostics to see what I could find. Both the volt and I2C (whatever that is) were fine.
But the EHT board seems to have an error. Am I right to assume the EHT is some sort of power supply? Cause I've been having some trouble switching it on. Sometimes it will just start working for a second before it switches back off. It might also work for a few minutes before randomly loosing power. On my last attempt here I got it working for about 10 minutes or so before I switched it off myself.

A SEOS unit isn't going to be usable in a front projection HT setup. These are designed to be used on curved screens in a simulator. Its probably going to need a different set of lenses and perhaps some new boards.
Lots of info here and on AVS about modding SEOS units, although these probably refer to other Barco pj's.

As previously stated, I live in Norway.
HaydnG90, I've been looking more into the specifications of my 919. It has HD10-R5M lenses which I understand are primarily designed for curved screens. I am still running it front projected with a completely square image though.

I think not all SEOS units are the same. This guy looks like he got curved lenses, but mine came with 900s. I have also ran mine and it was fine on a flat screen. I know Scott told me once that a lot of Marquees are used in rear pro sims. So, it could just be in the case of these used gov pjs what they were used for as to how much work needs to be done (if any) to make them usable in a HT environment.

No, random set shutdowns like you describe are usually system/controller board problems. No cure known save for replacing the system board, which are impossible to find, and BArco wants $3500 for them.
Check the software revision of your set in the startup screen in the service menu. Anything under software version 2.00 is considered 'old' and undesirable. THe early software was full of problems.
