been messing with this thing since I got it going, and it sound great and has a lot of power.... the one problem I am having with it is the low frequencies...

There are low frequencies, but they seem like they are turned down.. I have gone through the manual and I could not find a loudness setting etc.... Ive messed with the tone control, the room EQ etc... it changes sound but bass does not increase...

for a 170 watt per channel receiver and a $6000 one at that, it does not have the sound of a $6000 unit. I'm sure its mostly me not knowing what the hell I am doing.

However, if any of you have a denon and know how these work please let me know, I am not used to Denons lol

There should be a 2 channel "Direct" mode or "DSP off" mode or "Pure mode" or Stereo direct or something like that. If you are running it in theater mode or anything that processes the signal the output will cut the bass at THX Standard 80 Hz... so nothing below 80 Hz will be heard. Or the sub out put is turned down {well actually up like 100 150 200 Hz} in one of the master settings.

on my processor the sub was engaged even if i was in 2channel analog mode. i had to turn off the sub for that setting. i also suspect that your bass is being routed to the sub.

Have you set the size of your speakers in the receiver to large so it doesn't filter the low frequencies to the sub?

On the AVR5805, as per the manual, if my speakers are set to LARGE, the receiver will pass all lower frequencies to the towers as well as the subwoofer. I have also set it to LFE+Main as per the manual to again allow all low frequencies to the speakers.

The low frequencies are there, its just that it seems a lot less powerful than a 100lb 170wpc receiver should be.

I have begun taking the amplifiers out of the working one I have here, and putting them into the one that has a blown amp. Hopefully the other unit will work correctly.

one of the 2 bottom power transformers on the working unit (the one with no bass), gets extremely HOTTT, you cannot touch it if the receiver has been on for a while, so that leads me to beleive it has another issue.

I guess thats the achillies heal with these things, they are huge 100lbs, and very complex, so when one has an issue it could take forever to fix Razz

Make sure your speakers are in phase, if not the bass will be cancelling from each bass driver more than the other drivers.

If your not using a separate sub in the system then you must go into speaker configuration and select "no" for subwoofer.

You can then also go into channel level and increase the output for the front speakers.

The fronts also need to be set at large and select a mode of "stereo" if just using the fronts.

You can also increase the input level of each input you are using. This will also give you stronger base.

As can the EQ which you have already been playing with.
