|
|
Hi,
I have found an interesting deal on a Sony VPH-G70, however the original remote is missing.
The seller says he have been using a Philips universal Pronto remote and it has worked fine.
I have searched the forum for people with similar problems, and it seems like most people have
managed to find a proper remote through 'Buy and Sell' or otherwise, which solved their problem.
So, how good can a universal remote be with a G70?
I guess basic operations could work fine, but how about setup functions. Does it come down to
how well the remote is programmed?
Can setup procedure be done without a proper remote?
/B

I've only ever had Pronto remotes for my G70.
Pronto NEO and the TS3000.
I preferred the NEO for setting up and convergence. The form factor was better for holding with a single hand. And the response seemed a little quicker.
But the NEO died so I'm now using the TS3000. Works fine.

Personally I would never want to setup a Sony without the original remote. I would go nuts trying to use a Pronto or something like that for a setup. A Pronto would be fine for daily use, but setting up would be a nightmare to me.
Curt may have remotes and I do have them in stock. I have wired only and IR+wired G70 remotes. The wired only remotes are cheap too.

I am out for now, since a few of my G90s came without remotes, so feel free to sell one, Craig.

Will do, thanks! I think I have just enough, including one spare for the bench, but if someone buys all of the 10 G70s I have here, I'll be in trouble. (All G70s have tube wear!)

So it is quite possible to run a G70 with a Pronto remote, also the more advanced functions,
even if some prefer the original one.
I didn't know you could download stuff like that for the remote. Cool.
Since there is a possibility to get an original remote, and make the PJ complete, I think
I will try to get one anyway.
Thank you for insights.

Absolutely!
I've setup my G70 numerous times with two different Pronto remotes. I don't know of any buttons found on the original that can't be programmed into or learned by the Pronto or similar remotes.

Unfortunately someone else got the G70 because of my indecisiveness.
I suppose I missed a good deal.
Only a few hundred hours on new tubes (allegedly). Old tubes included
Well, there will be others (A NEC XG has shown up )
