Buy some beers or a nice bottle of scotch. Call one or two buddies. Don't risk hurting yourself, or more importantly, the VV1!
That said, I think this thread is going to have some great stories of clever brilliance and complete idiocy alike...
When I got my hands on the G90 I decided to part out, a friend helped me move it into my basement. He said "You can't keep this 'cuz I won't help you put it up there!" (on the ceiling)

Always good to remove the lenses which contribute significantly to the overall weight. You'll have to get inventive to get it down the stairs. If its a straight run I would rig up a winch and put the pj on sledge and lower it carefully down the stairs. At least you have gravity working for you. The winch can then be used to raise it to the ceiling. I managed to get my G90 up alone using a cheap electric winch.

Remove the case, remove the lenses, remove the power supplies.
Then it is 70 lbs lighter. Find a friend - go slow down the steps -
save the beer for after the move (very important...hohoho!)

Lenses off is a good point. Weight is significant reduced - especially on nine-inchers.
I strapped my G70 on a two-wheel dolly (like a light version of a refrigerator dolly). Went down the stairs one-by-one. I had help just in case, but I could have done it by myself.
If I know anybody who could help, I'd rather do that. If you're smart (dolly, cart, etc.), you can make it very safe and easy for two people so you're not imposing much.

I think my experience is closer to the "complete idiocy" end of the scale...
Moving the G70 was easy. It has handles. I just picked it up and hauled it down the stairs.
The 8500 was harder, since there's nothing to hang onto. I wrapped straps around the case and used those as handles, then picked it up and hauled it down the stairs.
It wasn't fun, mind you, and I don't think I was smart enough to pull the lenses first, but it worked.
I used several methods to lift my projectors (XG852, Dwin 700, G70, 8500) to the ceiling. The best was Clarence's chain method. I took the 8500 from floor to "remove the chains, it's on the mount" in 30 minutes, by myself.

I move barrels for a living, sometimes moonlight as a bouncer, so the moving the marquees comes easy. I was gonna say something super jackassy but I'll save it; it is a family forum after all.

Yup. That's how I've gotten all of mine up and down all by myself. I use help to get them to the basement however.

I take the lenses off and pick them up. The G90 is a little to bulky, but I just bear hug the 909s

We took a 1252 down a narrow basement staircase by laying plywood down on the stairs and letting it slide attached to a 1/2 inch rope to moderate the speed. Worked great!

Yow, I wouldn't want to do that. Picking it up would be a back-killer, as would holding that much weight that high. With the G70 handles or the straps on the Marquee, I can pick it up without bending over and straining my back, and I carry them against my legs with a low center of gravity. Easy to horse them around with my knees if necessary, and easy to set them down and pick them up if needed.

When I put the Ampro up on the ceiling I removed the tubes and lenses, pretty easy to put them back in on a 4600 but I am not sure how hard it is on other pjs. If you are going to move it your self and you can take out the tubes and lenses then do so you will take off about 40 kg of weight. You should have no problem with it then, good luck, pretty useful if you are going to ceiling mount it as well.

Is that difficult in your projector?

wow spanky... wish i was able to bear hug my cine 9!@# *tips hat*
i had to move my cine 9 with a mate in a recent move. looking back, we should have moved the cine 9 first but did it with the last load. by the time we got to it we were both exhausted and had to stop twice, on a dog leg staircase. was nuts.
removing the lenses saved atleast 15kg...
i need to fabricate a trolley with all wheel suspension and straps and bolt points!! lol
not looking forward to the ceiling mount lifting...

When I refurbished my 9500LC last year, I first removed the lenses, then the CRT assemblies, took out the power supplies, and was able to easily handle the
now stripped chassis. I then remounted the chassis back to the ceiling mount without assistance and then reassembled the unit in reverse order.
The only catch is that I had to go back and forth between the room and the attic more than once. The PJ is on a pulley system but the while pulley system
is mounted inside the attic.
It's slow but quite safe and actually pretty easy. But you do have to know your projector pretty well. The Marquee chassis and I are old friends.

For a VV1, remove the case (so it doesn't get damaged), then the lens, the power supplies and finally the rear panel (heatsink w/boards). It will take you 10 mintues and will make the beast over 100 lbs lighter.
