Unfortunately Apple products from that era could not be described in those terms. Its one reason the company almost went to the wall and the share price hit @$10. They then saw the light, fired Sculley and begged Jobs to come back. The rest is history as the saying goes......

I'm not even sure why you'd say that because it's not accurate at all. The reasons for Apple's board firing Scully and bring Jobs back was for a lot of reasons, and Jobs did bring about a renaissance of sorts when he returned, but it isn't as if Apple's products weren't well-designed before Jobs' return. After all, much of his influence was still present right before his return.
While Apple may not have been pushing the design envelope with form and materials back then like they do now, they were still enlisting some very good industrial designers to do award-winning product design, and were well-known for it all through the 80's and 90's - even before Steve Jobs left Apple, let alone returned.
In the mid-90's when most of the PC industry was selling stuff like this:
Apple was selling PowerMacs that looked like this:
That image doesn't even tell the whole story, because they had a great design that allowed you lay the machines on their sides, open them up, rotate the chassis to give access to the logic board, and upgrade RAM or HD - all without any tools. They were GREAT designs.
Going back even further to the 1983, when IBM PC's looked like this (IBM was good compared to most - they actually had industrial designers):

If you go really far back the Kaypro 10 wasn't too bad looking.
The Apple II was better looking however.

Actually, I think the VV1 is by far the best. You know, this reminds me of the ECP4500 that was integrated into a 67 camero...just happened to see it at one of those local car/PJ cruizns...

Ok, I was going to say my first pc, Commodore 64.
But now, the sexiest is what is on my ceiling and projecting a good picture; NEC 6PG Xtra or G90.

I know you jest but I considered doing that with a split pack. Pull up to a white wall, with the convergence set at a preset distance and viola, instant drive in theater.
