|
|
This is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off topic. However, the bed of knowledge and the talent that is a part of this community leads me to believe I can find the info I need.
I am looking for a manufacturer that makes the same type of electromagnetic plunger that is found in a doorbell. I have removed the plunger from a door bell that I purchased yesterday and it would be perfect except for a couple of things:
1. I only need the plunger to travel in one direction
2. I need the plunger to travel further outside of the coil before returning to it's original position
3. When holding my finger in front of it, it needs to strike my finger with more force.
What I need is something similar to the plunger on a pinball machine that launches the ball, but I would like for it to be controlled electronically. It will be used to distribute a low-force strike to an object and the plunger needs to be about 4 to inches long and not any thicker than your average pencil.
Any ideas or suggestions of other types of the same device are welcome and anyone that has a contact and number of a person that I can call or email would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Doc

Hello
Those would be called solenoids, and are found in pinball machines and thousands of other devices.

And here I thought you'd invented something for plumbers. Damn, I'm disappointed!

Exactly, but does anyone personally know an outfit that manufactures them?
Thanks!

Hi,
You can look for solenoid/plunger combinations which were made for pinball/jukebox machines. Those tend to be quite powerful. I've seen some on eBay...

Edit: When I started to write there were still no answers. Now look at that...

Battery voltage will affect its strength. Maybe a 9 volt battery. That 4 inch you mention. Is that 4 inches of travel that you need? If not, how much travel?
