Moving up from the 9PG to the black edition XG...
What is the difference between these Runco versions and the standard XG 75? Aside the obvious paint difference!!

The XG's were already confusing. Now you complcated it with getting the Runco version...LOL.....well I have the Runco version of the NEC 6PGXTRA called HDTV-933....it is great but Runco brought the HRZ bandwidth down to control prices for the more expensive units. So....depending on the marketing Runco did, you may never know the difference.

Nice score! How do you like the loudness of the new monster? Soundwise it is an advantege for you that your machine is originally suited for 110V mains voltage, because the PG's with 240V input always had more fans in them than the 110V type, the manual also lists different noise values for XGs too, however it could be due to different measuring methods as well.
Actually I saw only one NEC XG 751 in person but that didn't have curtain control port, it is probably a very-very precious runco thing

How DARE you call that an NEC! It's a Runco! It has many secret modifications known only by Sam Runco, and the black 'paint' as you call it is clearly an 'antireflective' coating, completely justifying the $10K surcharge, both when new, and on the used market.

Nice XG Case! Better get some ear muffs if you plan on sitting next to it:P Did one of those $10000 mods include fan silencers?
Ok in all seriousness, very nice score case! You even got the HDMI card You WILL LOVE the XG

Damn, I still think the XG is one of the nicest looking CRT projectors. I think the case was designed by the same industrial design firm that created a few of the Apple monitors of the era, as you can see some very similar design elements.
I like Sam's high-performance black paint, too.

This one is a 110v unit, im waiting on my step down tranny to arrive before i can fire it up here, but i did see it yesterday when i picked it up, and it didnt seem to be any louder than my 9PG, so ill have to wait til its on the ceiling before ill really know for sure what itll be like. | Curt Palme wrote: | How DARE you call that an NEC! Is that what it is... Its a reasonable paint job all the same, but youd think they could glue the remote receiver window back on straight and the sticker on the remote was crooked too!!
I paid $480 AUD, seems i managed to circumvent the Runco tax

Cheers mate I wouldnt worry about fan noise, i used to have a ThermalTake Xazer 3 full tower with its 80mm fans, and in total counting the CPU, Chipset and video card fans, i had 16 in total. Fan noise used to be a good thing back then
Ill be looking to get some new tubes at some point, or even some very good used ones will do, id say the blue may have been swapped out, cause it is hardly showing any wear at all, where as the red is about half as worn as the green. Ill see if i can snap a couple shots of that later, bit tricky with the camera i have though.
2 wear patterns exsist, original is centered and reasonable size, but within that is another pattern, off to the side of the original and a little bit smaller, and id say it would be visible on screen... Time will tell i spose, ill need to bleed them before i do much more.
Its quite a nice looking machine though, the style of it is abit more attractive than the PG, which i reckon looks pretty nice too.

I owned an XG135LC and really liked it, but I believe it was louder than the PG.
Wow, $480AUD for an 8"AC with bad tubes. Are CRT prices in OZ still that high?

I had an XG852. I used it for almost a year before I decided I had to build a hushbox or it was going to drive me crazy.

Have you had a look at XG 75s in the for sale section on here? Cause they are considerably higher than what i just paid, and i thought Curt's prices were quite reasonable. You reckon i could ship one to Australia for less? Would cost me more than $480 AUD just to get it shipped. That is a very good price, and i dont see any reason as to why it is not.
And bad tubes? Who said they were bad tubes? The wear is very even and large enough to stay within. Not ideal, but its not the end of the world either. It aint that small.

Curt's prices are different from the general market. From the way you described the tubes, I thought they might be "5" or "6" wear.

The red would be a 7 i spose, the green a 5 or 6, and the blue for some reason is WAY up there about high 8... Almost zero wear...
Australia is NOT the general market. Over here, our tax system is quite different to yours, which means that when these things were new, they were substantially more expensiver here than they were there. $480 for this projector is a dead set bargain, you couldnt get a comparitive performing projector used over here for less. No point with this "us and them" comparison, this is Australia, that is America.

No problem, I was just curious about the prices down there. As a point of comparison, I have a good tubed G70 and a spare that I would sell to someone local for $500 any day of the week.
On a different note, I just checked and the Australian dollar has skyrocketed in comparison to the US dollar. I thought about coming down there back when it was about $.80AUD to $1US. I guess that idea is going to be on the back burner for awhile.

Yeah mate its not the time to come over here from there at the moment About 8 or 9 years ago wouldve been your best bet, was as low as 46 cents of yours bought $1 of ours.
Its rare to see a G70 for sale here, but they almost always go for over $1,000 here for some reason.

Further to the tube condition Spanky, looks like im going to have to move the mount forward abit from where my 9PG is sitting even when i stay within the wear.
The 9PG has its HD-6 lenses, and this XG has HD-144s on it. Lucky i made a huge mount when i installed the PG, should be plenty of range there even when i decide to put in some new tubes...
