anyone here running a barco 1209 on a 100" wide screen?
if so, what is your distance to the screen - calculator says about 144 inches is right, but how accurate is that?

marquee calculations are conservative.
just maximize the active image (only concentrate on horizontal size) get it centered and shift the projector to fill the screen.
you probably end up wit the pj 30cm closer to the screen then the calculator gives you.

I just set up a 9500 Ultra, and got a 1.35 X the width throw.

barco - i'm asking about barco 1209, not marquee

well, it's like this....
i have everything for the blend of two XGLCs (except for 1 of the XGs, but that's a different and solvable story).
because of the weight of two PJs and 13' span of the floor joists i've looked into strengthening the joists. learned that plywood is not the way to go, and that sistering the joists is better. i haven't sistered them yet, but that's just time and money.
so the other night i had some friends over. I'm standing on the "floor side" of where the XGs will hang below and as she walks past I feel the floor flex. ever so gentle.
She's probably about 1.5 times the weight of an XGLC, so less of a stress than the XGs will be. but that kind of reinforced this nagging fear i have that a pair of XGs hanging from that floor might be real dumb.
so i'm rethinking things. sigh.

Haha, I was about to ask how much she weighed.
Not a problem, I have minty 1209s here... or a 9500 Ultra, or.....unless you already have a set, and that means you're cheating on... ME!

i'd never cheat on that mullet.
if i put the barco at the very back of the room, that's about 144 from my planned screen size and location. it might jsut work out. and the barco hugs closer to the ceiling so that is less of an issue too.
hmmm.

Do this to get the right throw:
Put the projector on the cart or simply leave it on the floor so that you can move it.
Display something that fills the screen entirely (like a grid test pattern).
Using only the green (middle) tube, look into the tube and increase the image width on the tube face until it is around 1/8" to 1/4" from the edge of the white phosphor. Under no circumstances should you allow the image to go off of the white phosphor surface!
Move the projector back and forth until the image fits your screen.
THAT is the correct throw distance for optimal phosphor usage.

definately Kal - and i'll do it before the back wall is in because I think that the back end fo the PJ is going to be darn close to the back wall if not in it.
if so, i'll just build the wall around it and access from the from the workshop side.

Not sure if you're hung up on the 1209s, a great machine, but the MArquee would be about 10" shorter, allowing for a bigger pix if the room warrants it.

it's ceiling height i'm worried about it will be over an 8" riser. the barco is 3" slimmer than the marque and that might just make a difference. (96" ceiling - 8" riser - 13"barco == 75")
add in drywall and such and i'm only risking 6' people in the center back row.
pus the longer throw distance of the barco puts it at the very back of the room (better WAF). i thought that would be an issue with access when it was up against the back wall, but then realized that i can just put access into that wall as i plan to do that with the AV racks on the wall.
