So I've been cleaning up around here and finishing up some stuff that was put aside some time ago. Finished up 3 flat panels and started on number 4. Here it is. Looks like a pretty nice unit.
So I spend some time tracing out the problem. Then some time digging up some parts. Then some time to install said parts. I then install the boards and hit the power button. Yeah, we have a back light.
So I then turn it over to get a look at the picture and this is what I see. Damn it!!!!!!!
Getting ready now to pull all the boards and throw the rest in the trash........

Yes there is nash, use a flashlight on the panel, you will be able to see the leakage of the LC in the panel

I've never seen a busted one that wasn't pretty obvious in decent lighting. I'm surprised Mac's was a surprise, and that it was that hard to see.
But, yeah - a simple flashlight would definitely uncover any LCD breakage.

You could flash light this one all day long and not see a thing. The flash light trick is for a no backlight issue to see if the panel is working.
I have probably 2 or 3 more broken panels that you could not see a thing until it was lit up.

I'll admit thats true, only for the fact that I have had a couple of NEC LCD panels that were cracked, and I TRIED as much as possible to see if they were cracked or not, I could not tell until the backlight was lit, which at that point once seeing the cracked panel I would be pissed that I had to spend my time repairing a LCD that was junk.
For the majority of LCDs though, the flash light trick will work

I have one here. It looks great powered off. When you power on much the same as the one pictured. When you look at the unit powered off you see only a small pin hole where the damage is and its just not obvious until you turn the unit on. Luckily I didn't repair this first.

That's amazing, guys. I had no idea the diffusion layer would conceal the busted crystal so well. Duly noted.
I'm wondering if it's a function of how the bright the light is, like if you had a really good/bright flashlight, it might reveal more.
Of course, it could also be that more light is reflected back off the diffusion layer than is reflected back from within the LCD, overpowering your ability to see into the LCD.

I scored a Dell TV with a bad power cord. Searched all over the place ( while I was on vacation ) for one of those with the three leaf clover connector. Found it and YEP screens busted. I probably spent $20-30 bucks gas searching
Same thing, couldn't see the cracks in full daylight or with my 9 LED flashlight,
